The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center -Neurological Surgery Department has a great opportunity for a Research Associate 1, SOM. The Research Associate 1, SOM will perform technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans and will provide technical assistance in carrying out various research projects and will be collecting and organizing information for project reports. This position will assist with the development of a new processing flow of patient tissue obtained from the operating room. This individual must be able to work as part of a team and take direction from the Post-Doctoral Associates as well as the Assistant and Associate Scientists, and the Assistant Professor.
Assist Assistant Professor in maintaining daily operations for the laboratory.
Perform laboratory experiments and carries out research projects in various areas, new and on-going core activities, daily lab operations, ordering of supplies, purchasing, maintenance of animals, reagents, inventory and core’s needs.
Assist with maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.
Assist with client relations, invoicing, and monitoring core utilization.
Assist with ordering supplies and maintaining active lab budget.
Assist with on-going routing maintenance and repair of lab equipment and facilities as necessary.
Perform and assist other research staff with standard lab techniques including mammalian cell culture, stem cell culture, western blots, PCR, flow cytometry, cell sorting, etc.
Record and evaluate data in accordance with methods requested.
Construct, assemble, and operate laboratory apparatus and equipment.
Solves problems in scientific and technical execution, interpret experimental data and maintain accurate records.
Record, organize, and writes experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations using Power Point, and other graphics software as needed.
Keeps abreast of the latest literature in the field, searches for references to technical problems and keeps up-to-date with the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.
Works collaboratively within team setting with scientists and post-doctoral associates and provides technical assistance to lab members as assigned.
Ability to receive tissue or data from the operating room.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. Degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, and/or other related field.
One year of related laboratory experience.
Must be able to work as part of a team and take direction from the Post-Doctoral Associates as well as Scientists.
Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines; highly motivated, must be detail oriented, and able to maintain good records of work in both written and computer formats.
Knowledge of PC software programs: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and independently.
Must be able to apply logic and demonstrate problem solving techniques.
Must have good experimental technique and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
May need to develop, adapt, and implement new lab procedures.
Able to independently perform: western blots, qPCR, cell culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence.
