The research engineer will be responsible for safely completing chemical and bio-process engineering research projects as assigned. This will include experiment design, lab experiments, data analysis, reporting results, and recommending courses of action. The research engineer will be expected to complete projects with only broad directions. Projects will be varied, and it is expected that there will be very few routine assignments and may include solving complex process problems. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $55,000 to $62,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required

• Minimum of a B. Sc. in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of chemical engineering practice with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or pilot plant.
• Experience in the manufacture of biofuels/chemicals.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and support multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• A valid Maine driver’s license.

Preferred

• Experience with operating or supervising the operation of a continuous chemical manufacturing process.
• Experience with operating reactors, pumps, filter press, distillation, and liquid extraction.
• Demonstrated ability to implement new projects in biomass conversion to chemicals and fuels.
• Experience with OSIsoft PI software.
