Job Summary
Prof. Xiang's research group at Caltech is seeking a highly motivated and highly innovative Research Scientist to join the research team. The Research Scientist will work collaboratively with the team on novel concepts of electrochemical CO2 reduction, (photo) electrochemical hydrogen generation and compression, and electrochemical CO2 capture from dilute sources. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to work on multiple DOE funded projects ranging from basic energy science focused projects to applied/translational science projects.
Essential Job Duties
- Design, develop and test novel materials for electrochemical energy related applications.
- Design, fabricate and characterize lab-scale electrochemical test-beds and prototypes.
- Materials characterization and failure analysis of electrochemical materials, components and devices.
- Assist daily operation of materials/device synthesis, processing and characterization instrumentations including membrane synthesis, gas chromatography, chemical and physical vapor deposition systems.
- Assist preparation of DOE reports and publications of innovative electrochemical systems in peer-reviewed journals.
- Communicate and collaborate with graduate students, postdocs and peer scientists and rapidly transfer new science and materials into integrated concepts, devices and prototypes.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or other related field.
- Strong technical background in electrochemistry, materials synthesis, and characterization.
- Extensive and hands-on experience on synthesis, testing and characterization of electrochemical systems, including electrolysis, flow redox battery, electrodialysis and fuel cells.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related discipline.
- Expertise in synthesis, fabrication and characterization of membranes, membrane electrode assemblies and strong expertise in polymer science and ion exchange membranes.
