Research Technician, North Brunswick, NJ

Position Summary

Sonder Research X, a growing biotechnology company focused on developing therapeutics for ophthalmology and creating diagnostics for cancer, seeks to add an experienced Research Technician to our growing team. This position's primary focus is to assist our Research scientists with ongoing bench research projects, coordinate laboratory activities, maintain inventory to support research and development. This position requires an active role in equipment maintenance and laboratory maintenance to ensure that environmental requirements (laboratory safety procedures) are met at the federal, state, and local government levels.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in coordinating and communicating with team members, confident working in a fast-paced work environment, and comfortable operating small, delicate instruments and machinery. The position requires diligence in maintaining laboratory records, assisting with designing experiments, and reading scientific literature. The candidate will adhere to standard safety protocols and standard technical operating procedures taught by the company and will comply with the company vision and expectations. A bachelor’s in science is required, and a master’s degree in life sciences is recommended. We may request transcripts. We seek candidates with experience in biology, chemistry, or other life science fields; experience with microfluidics and cancer research is a plus.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology preferred. Must be well organized, have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Job Responsibilities

· Prepares and maintains detailed records, logs, and summary reports of all procedures and results, including graphs, scientific calculations, and statistical analysis charting.

· Ensures a clean working area and is responsible for washing and storing glassware.

· Ensures safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.

· Participates in planning and carrying out experiments—assists in preparing research protocols.

· Analyzes data using computer software and reports results to Research Scientist(s).

· Provides technical support to Scientists, administrators, and staff, including training new employees.

· May work with microfluidics device to test clinical samples.

· May be responsible for cell culture.

· May perform routine molecular biology laboratory procedures, such as PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, protein and DNA electrophoresis, western blotting, cloning, and DNA or RNA preparation.

· May perform microscopic imaging analyses.

· May be responsible for the receipt, storage, cataloging, and shipment of samples within and between institutions.

· Maintains the inventory of supplies, equipment, and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms the accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.

· Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed. May advise on upgrades for performance enhancements.

Education

· Bachelor's Degree in science

· Beneficial if candidate has a master’s degree or higher in science

Experience

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology preferred. 1+ years of experience required. Must be well organized, have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Standard laboratory conditions.

This position may handle biological materials from human subjects as required.

This position may require standing or sitting for long periods of time.

This role requires working within Biological Safety Level 1 or 2 facilities.
