Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural science with at least one year of related experience in the animal sciences, biological sciences, biomedical engineering or related health sciences, or a combination of education and work experience to equal five years.
  • At least 1 year of experience with basic laboratory assays and molecular biology techniques
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs by oneself, must be able to sit and stand for long periods
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to work as a team member in a lab setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with in vitro cell culture techniques
  • Experience with basic laboratory assays, such as protein extraction and quantification, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and Western Blotting
  • Experience with experimental recordkeeping, including reporting of experimental data, both raw and analyzed, and maintaining sample inventories
  • Experience with conducting research according to scientific protocols, including reporting errors and summarizing data for reporting.
  • Experience with in vitro models for medical research, specifically preclinical based therapies.
  • Experience with fluorescent microscopy
  • Experience with conducting research according to GLP regulations

Rosemary Kelly Cardiac Regenerative Therapies Laboratory

About the Job:

We are seeking a highly-motivated scientific researcher who will be responsible for performing experiments with both an in vitro and in vivo model of ischemic cardiomyopathy. Our laboratory focuses on developing adjuvant stem-cell based therapies to enhance cardiomyocyte function when applied with surgical revascularization. The researcher will work collaboratively with other members of the lab to characterize the changes in mitochondrial bioenergetics in the heart, as well as the response to reoxygenation of the ischemic tissue. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented critical thinker able to work closely with other scientists to facilitate completion of studies in a thoughtful and timely manner. Independent work is expected, but the researcher will be mentored closely with and receive guidance and support from the PI and senior members of the lab


Specific duties include:

Perform experiments and process samples (60%)
  • Maintains a clean environment and ensures that areas are adequately ordered, stocked and that equipment is in working order.
  • Calibrate equipment and troubleshoot equipment properly
  • Initiate and revise lab standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed
  • Clean lab, instruments and equipment
  • Maintain cell culture lines
  • Process cardiac tissue samples for downstream analysis
  • Perform in vitro experiments and molecular biology assays
  • Organization of samples from multiple projects
  • Maintain detailed notes of experimental procedures, samples, and methods
Data analysis (20%)
  • Perform analysis of molecular biology assays
  • Perform quantitative analysis of histological, fluorescent microscopy, and electron microscopy images
  • Maintain organized spreadsheets of all data using Microsoft Excel
Scientific writing and presentation (20%)
  • Interpret and summarize data in reports
  • Present data in Powerpoint or other formats at weekly lab meetings
  • Attend regular group meetings and share data
  • Assist in writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts and grants
