SCOPE OF POSITION
RRT
Performs basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic, and life support respiratory care procedures in general and intensive patient care areas.
Essential Functions:
- Provides quality service in a caring, supportive and professional manner.
- Actively commits to team building and communication efforts, provision for cost effectiveness, and respect for everyone, demonstrating actions which support goals and objectives of SCCH.
- Performs various therapeutic, life support, and diagnostic procedures. Evaluates patients and communicates suggested alternatives to physician.
- Assists in the education of students, departmental projects, and orientation of new employees.
- Actively participates in performance improvement program by collecting and analyzing data to obtain desired outcomes.
- Performs setup, monitoring and maintenance of mechanical ventilators.
- Assures personal and professional development through participation in educational activities and completion of annual competency validation, including ACLS certification.
- Educates patients/families/significant others about respiratory-related topics. Explains procedures to patients to elicit cooperation and maximize effectiveness of procedures.
- Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance and operational verification of equipment and recognizes equipment malfunction, taking appropriate action whenever necessary. Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
CRTT
This position provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders to patients ranging from child (minimum of 9 years old), adolescent, adult and geriatric, in both the acute and chronic patient, and the documentation of such care, in accordance with policies and procedures approved by the Medical Director and Hospital Administration.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports directly to the Cardiovascular Services Manager.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Graduate of an AMA JRCRTE approved advanced practitioner program.
- Licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine and registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
RPGST
1) Minimum requirements: Experience in the field of Neurodiagnostics, Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy. Current ACLS certification required.
2) Prefer: One-year experience in the field of Polysomnography. Registered Polysomnography Technologist. A.C.L.S. certification. (If being considered for a position in Center for Sleep Disorders)

Physical Requirements
This position requires that the individual be able to perform C.P.R. at any time. The person must be able to perform a heavy workload occasionally (30%) and an average workload at all other times. Knowledge and use of proper body mechanics is essential. This position requires an accurate visual acuity to manage equipment and assess the patient's condition. Hearing acuity is necessary at the level to be able to hear patient comments during procedures and the intercom. These requirements are essential to the performance of the job.
On a regular basis, this employee will work in the laboratory setting, with a controlled environment. On occasion, this person may be required to attend educational activities and health fairs outside the hospital, or may be asked to perform diagnostic procedures as part of a mobile laboratory. This employee may be asked to perform duties in all areas of the hospital, including areas that are confined, noisy and any temperature. Since this position can deal with life and death situations, and may require extended periods of concentration and independent functioning, the stress level is expected to be high. This position requires interaction with physicians, nurses and family members in emotionally charged situations. The individual must be able to function both as an individual and as part of the team. This position will be exposed to infectious diseases and body fluids on a daily basis and should be well educated on the practice of standard precautions. The employee will be required to work flexible schedules and take call.
