Job description
In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) contract in the near future, Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking an RF Communications Engineer to promote HLS and other programs as part of a diverse team that develops lunar landers, other cislunar spacecraft, and a wide range of critical technologies for civil, military, and commercial space programs.
The RF Communications Engineer will boost the Dynetics Space Systems Division in the development of a human lander system and promote equipment, primarily accountable for system design, integration, and qualification of RF communications hardware into a seamless operational system. This position also requires the ability to translate high-level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and to work with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower-level detailed requirements. Candidates will work in a team environment to promote design through product implementation and should be able to direct engineering design disposition on all documentation discrepancies.
Candidate might be tasked to travel as necessary (10-20%)
Basic Qualifications
- Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution. Candidates with master’s and PhD degrees are encouraged to apply, with degree level substitution for direct industry work history.
- Candidates will have 2+ years of work history with roles, as detailed in this description, with an engineering company or system integrator where design, testing, and/or modification of human rated aerospace systems communications hardware was involved.
- Candidate will have work history developing RF link budgets along with hardware experience with space-based transceivers, antennas, and amplifiers.
- Candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Candidates will have demonstrated work history effectively conveying within a team environment.
Candidates will be residents of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Other Qualifications
Preferred candidates may possess a master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution. Preferred candidates may have work history and/or working knowledge of the following:
- NASA or other aerospace development spaceflight projects
- Working as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams
- Demonstrated the ability to architect and implement complex Space-based RF communication links/systems.
- Comprehension of communications with regards to navigation and telemetry systems.
- Comprehension standards for packet data formats, coding and synchronization, and modulation.
- Coordinating and planning frequency spectrum with Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Interagency Operations Advisory Group (IOAG), National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Space Frequency Coordination Group (SFCG), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
- Obtaining space-based communication permits and licenses.
- Knowledgeable with electromagnetic interference analysis and testing.
- Knowledgeable with passive intermodulation and harmonic effects
- Analyzing RF communications systems, signals, antenna patterns, and cosite analysis using computational electromagnetic software such as STK, HFSS, E3Expert, GEMACS, and/or MATLAB/Simulink.

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
