Hiring Range: $20.00 - 25.00 Hourly
JOB SUMMARY
As a Safety Associate, you will provide safety and security in Catholic Charities buildings and grounds by responding to the needs of the tenants, clients, guests, volunteers and staff. Safety Associates provide excellent customer service, interact in a trauma informed way during every interaction, and work proactively to prevent incidents on Catholic Charities property. Safety Associates may be involved in high risk situations and may be asked to respond to de-escalate customers, tenants and guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patrols designated areas in buildings and grounds interacting with clients, tenants, volunteers and guests and built positive relationships. Responds to calls for service and completes any shift paperwork as directed.- Uses appropriate interpersonal skills, trauma informed care framework and de-escalation techniques to influence escalated situations, gaining genuine agreement and following through on decisions and regulations.
- Uses appropriate responses to disengage from physical violence as necessary to remove self and others from escalated situations.
- Identify, assess and understand crisis intervention from the moment an incident occurs to the point that recovery procedures start.
- Demonstrates ability to provide service, adjusting approaches to reflect differences in the population served; individualizes response to meet client/tenant/guest needs.
- Partners effectively with program staff in decision making and response; fosters culture of improvement and innovative thinking.
- May occasionally fill in for breaks or other cross coverage of housing and emergency services desks. Attends shift huddles with teams to hear current issues and needs.
- Acts as point of contact for first responders arriving on campus, follows up after incidents. Assists in response to alarms in tenant rooms with housing team if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
High school diploma or equivalent required.- Two years customer service and security experience required
- One year shelter/outreach experience preferred.
- CPI de-escalation and self defense training preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record that is acceptable to the insurance company required.
- Basic computer skills desired.
- Ability to work irregular hours on short notice, including night and holiday shift coverage.
- Ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
