Sheakley Workforce Management Services is currently seeking a Safety Manager for a position in Portsmouth, VA. Our client is one of the nation's leading contracting firms. The client wants to start this out as a 1099-contract position. However, depending on the right person can start as full-time with benefits as a direct hire.

The client ideally wants people with heavy marine, diving, heavy crane operations, and marine construction but safety qualifications are essential too. For lower pay positions (JD Assistant Safety Director) they want a minimum of 5 years of experience. Higher pay (Safety Director) looking for 10-15 years with CSP and has been around construction.

Summary:

The Safety Director will develop and implement business health and safety policy and risk management guidelines. Safety Initiatives & Vision, Safety Loss Control, Safety Culture, Safety Reporting

Responsible for:

  • The development and implementation of business health and safety policy and risk management guidelines. Safety Initiatives & Vision, Safety Loss Control, Safety Culture, Safety Reporting
  • Develop safety procedure manuals, OSHA, and Construction industry standards
  • Ensure legal and industry compliance
  • Design procedural lists and documents for safety
  • Oversee and advise the use of safety equipment
  • Intimate knowledge of OSHA, Environmental law
  • Intimate knowledge of Health and Safety State and Federal laws
  • Supervise inspections and training programs
  • Address employee safety concerns
  • Conduct safety and risk audits of work practices and processes
  • Work daily with operations to assess associated risks of operations
  • Ensure Health and Safety and Environmental protocols are being followed
  • Develop best practices for all Departments
  • Understand the operational characteristics of the business and provide safety directives
  • Monitor and report all incidents and report trends
  • Sets safety goals and plans for the attainment
  • Manages employee injuries and light duty
  • Manage Safety Department personnel

Skills required:

  • College degree, OSHA 500, CSP Certification
  • Excellent Communication and Cooperation skills, both verbal and written
  • Proactive Leadership and Leads by example
  • Strong Organization, sharp attention to detail
  • Logistical planning and Critical thinking
  • Computer experience
  • Hazard assessment

Pay: $85,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
