Secondary Special Education Coordinator The Secondary Special Education Coordinator provides special education leadership that creates, implements, maintains and enhances achievement opportunities for students with disabilities, and supports the work of special education, general education and related therapies in supporting students with disabilities within the school environment and life of the school.Scope of Responsibility: The Secondary Special Education Coordinator assists the Director of Student Services and Building Principals in the oversight of special education services and programming for grades 6 through 12. The Coordinator acts as an instructional leader in the district and participates in the evaluation of special education staff. The Secondary Coordinator works to develop cohesion with special education and general education programming to ensure that all students' educational needs are met. The Secondary Special Education Coordinator must have a working understanding of state and federal Special Education laws and regulations, including the ability to articulate district responsibilities regarding special education compliance.Qualifications: MA DESE Administrator of Special Education licensure;MA DESE Special Education licensure;Proven leadership abilities in school/program/department administration or oversight, special education program development and evaluation, and staff supervision and evaluationA minimum of 5 years experience in education including special education teaching, experience as a Special Education Team Chairperson (or equivalent) and/or administrative experience at the secondary level.Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsAdditional Responsibilities: To chair initial and re-evaluation team meetings; coordinate the IEP process with special education/general education staff, administrative assistants, and building administration.Facilitate OOD Team Meeting Process and monitoring of OOD students in accordance with DESE requirements. Assist with the preparation of financial and programmatic reports required at the local, state or federal level as they relate to secondary special education. Attend administrative staff meetings, building-based staff meetings, and other professional meetings, as appropriate.Collaborate with Principals/APs, department facilitators, and district administrators in the process of monitoring the progress of special education students, including effective implementation of special education programs and services at the secondary level.Assist in the hiring of department employees according to district practices.Assist in the development of the yearly department budget including staffing needs, instructional materials and resources needs, and monitoring of expenditures.Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or Superintendent of SchoolsReports to: Director of Student ServicesSupervises: Special Education Teachers, Secondary Related Service Providers and Teaching Assistants in conjunction with Director of Student Services and Building PrincipalsWork Year: 204 days of which 184 days will be worked when students and teachers are in sessionSalary: Based on experienceContract: This is a non-union, contracted position. Contracts are written in 3-year cycles.
