Senior Grant Writer

Position Overview:
Faith in Action seeks a seasoned and experienced grant writer to join our growing grant writing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in social justice, organizing, and policy and will know how to construct a compelling, cohesive narrative that communicates value at every level – from how Faith in Action articulates our strategic approach to how we describe the features and impact of our core programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Proposals and Reports
- Determines proposal concepts by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposals (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.
- Meets proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal – and managing the work of the junior writer.
- Writes, revises, and edits drafts, including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials – with a focus on grants of $500K+.
- Obtains approvals by reviewing proposals with key providers and project managers.
- Coordinates with program managers to develop sound project budgets.
- Regularly edits the written work of the team, primarily that of the Junior Grant Writer.
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for executing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to the organization.
- Prospecting
- Reviews prospect research of the junior grant writer, adjusting based on prior knowledge and expertise.
- Uses analytical skills to rank funders to create targeted lists that best fit Faith in Action’s mission and projects.
- Project Management
- Manages grants calendar to keep grants team and program managers aligned on deadlines.
- Meets deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, preparing, and review.
- Meets monthly with program managers to align projects and attend online or phone meetings as required.
- Manages the organization of files, manages information with discretion, and demonstrates an ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment. Management

Education & Experience:
- Minimum of five years of experience in grant writing, prospect research, and general fundraising
- Minimum of two years of experience managing at least one employee
- An understanding of philanthropic culture, and fundraising trends; preferred experience with grant funders in the social justice, advocacy, and policy fields.
