SUMMARY

Responsible for coordinating quality and patient safety efforts in the community hospitals in collaboration with the Director of Quality and Patient Safety. Collaborates with local and system quality and patient safety teams and hospital leaders to design and implement quality and patient safety programs. Performs risk assessments, makes recommendations, initiates action plans and facilitates ongoing evaluations to improve patient safety. Acts as a resource for best practice across the system. This position requires some travel to community hospitals.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Graduate of a recognized, accredited school of nursing, and currently licensed and in good standing with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing. Bachelor’s degree required.

Master’s degree in a health-related field preferred.

Minimum of five years’ experience in healthcare required; minimum of one years’ experience in quality, regulatory, patient safety, and/or related work required.

Demonstrated leadership ability, communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians, management, staff, external agencies, patients and families.

Self-directed; able to work effectively and efficiently with multiple interruptions and changing work priorities. Strong organizational and time management skills required. Able to make quality, independent decisions using analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in assigned work. Highly detailed and team oriented.

Experienced in directing and guiding teams through complex problem-solving processes utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills and techniques. Planning skills necessary to develop action plans, timelines and ability to achieve objectives within time frames allotted. Presentation skills for development and delivery of presentations to diverse audiences.


ORGANIZATION

Reports to the Director of Quality and Patient Safety of MHC Community Hospitals. Also has accountability to the MHC Chief Quality and Safety officer. Works closely with department managers, Accreditation, Infection Prevention, regional Chief Medical Officers, and entity Chief Nursing Officers.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare.

2. Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare.

3. Promotes personal and patient safety.

4. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times. Applies techniques of problem solving, active listening, negotiation and strong consensus building skills.

5. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, management, medical staff, and employees to ensure a professional and respectful interactions.

6. In coordination with the Director of Quality and Patient Safety, assists in recruiting, training, coaching and team building of the department.

7. Collaborates with Director of Quality and Patient Safety to prioritize clinical quality and patient safety efforts and facilitate department staffing allocation.

8. Leads or participates in patient safety event analyses (debriefs, root cause analyses, etc.) and facilitates action plan completion for entity root cause analyses.

9. Promotes compliance with the requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies including The Joint Commission, MI Department of Health, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This may involve data submission and support for requested case reviews.

10. May participate in the development, implementation, maintenance, and dissemination of policies and procedures.

11. Leads or participates in assigned entity committees, including Management Quality and Safety Committee.

12. Assists with new hire onboarding for quality and safety teams, as well as facilitating Voice training for new managers in the community hospitals.

13. Collects, collates, and reports data to various committees.

14. Leads project implementation for assigned quality and safety efforts. Shares best practices across MHC.

15. Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth and development by literature review, participation in professional organizations, and attendance at applicable MHC meeting/education options.

16. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
