As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for ensuring safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations, educating pilots on potential safety threats, implementing medical programs, and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Specialist will ensure a safe workplace for our employees and travel experience for our customers. This role is responsible for supporting the manager in developing and implementing an employee injury mitigation program. This includes optimizing the method of injury data intake, identifying insights and trends from the data, working with the injury prevention teams to identify mitigation strategies, and monitoring the progress of those strategies. This role requires an individual with analytical abilities, data collection software, and top-notch communication skills. As an individual contributor, this role requires someone capable of being proactive, collaborative, and hands-on with injury data with limited supervision.

  • Collect, interpret, and communicate injury and illness data to identify injury insights and trends to drive improvement, achieve and sustain a culture of safety through effective and targeted injury prevention programs and initiatives
  • Utilize the injury reporting system infrastructure and processes to improve workflow, data access, accuracy, and reports
  • Reviews all incidents reported for accuracy, returns, if necessary, recategorizes
  • Provide oversight of Injury Investigation reports and data accuracy
  • Completes and submits regulatory required injury and illness reporting documents
  • Prepare data analysis reports and assist with the injury database usage and accuracy
  • Encourage injury and illness reporting through training, consultation, guidance, and promotion

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree or two years of relevant work experience
  • Hybrid work schedule working 2-3 days a week from Willis Tower
  • Quantitative field like Data Science, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years utilizing data to manage the quality of a program
  • 1+ year(s) translating high-level initiatives down to the frontline and/or communicating the needs of the operation to leadership
  • Ability to take on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing top objectives
  • Analysis skills and critical thinker
  • Knowledge of Relational databases and/or programming language
  • Knowledge of common workplace injury causes/trends or the ability to learn about them
  • Advanced skills in most common Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with all parts of the data ecosystem; acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and deployment
  • Knowledge and application of data visualization best practices
  • Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e., Spotfire, Tableau, Palantir, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant, automation, reporting and dashboards
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Proven problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly understand complex systems and explain them to varied audiences
  • Ability to understand Occupational Health and Safety Recordkeeping requirements
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4+ years utilizing data to manage the quality of a program
  • 4+ years facilitating training to peers
  • 2+ year(s) translating high-level
  • Initiatives down to the frontline and/or communicating the needs of the operation to leadership
  • Knowledge or experience using Quality Management Solutions (i.e., ETQ, Intellect, SAP, EASE, Qualio)
