This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week. Relocation may be provided.

About the role

The Senior Synthetic and XR Software Engineer is responsible for developing 3D applications for simulation and interactive 3D visualization within the Manufacturing IT organization. The role entails working with a team of AI, 3D, and robotics engineers to improve the vehicle manufacturing process. This is an exciting opportunity to use tools that are typically used in the video game industry but are rapidly becoming relevant to the automotive industry. The ideal candidate will have experience with 3D development and Immersive Technology.

We are looking for an engineer who:

  • Good understanding of generating and curating large amounts of immersive content
  • Is proficient in User Experience within immersive technologies
  • Can design solutions for multiple platforms with minimum overhead

Specific areas of responsibility include:
  • Designing interactive visualization for multiple platforms (web browser, mobile devices) with Unreal Engine/Unity
  • Collaborating with internal GM customers to create useful tools to help them be more productive
  • Developing visual content utilizing 3D rendering engines
  • 3D modeling
  • Constantly research and adopt new frameworks, solutions, and approaches
  • Mentoring Entry Level Developers

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in the software engineering industry
  • 5+ years of experience with Unity 3D and/or Unreal Engine
  • Experience developing interactive applications for virtual reality and/or mixed reality (e.g., HoloLens/Magic Leap)
  • Excellent knowledge of UX for immersive technologies across multiple platforms-devices
  • Prior Tech Lead, Dev Lead, Software Architect, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in C/C++, C#, Java, and Python
  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
  • Proven experience in cloud technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, and High-Performance Compute (HPC) clusters
  • Strong knowledge of 3D modeling software (Blender, Maya, Siemens NX, etc.) and ability to manipulate 3D geometry
  • Strong problem-solving skills and persistence to push through
  • Strong mentoring Skills
  • Passion for constant learning and self-improvement

COMPENSATION

The median level of salary compensation for this role is $86,460 - $113,760
