Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (Cloud Properties) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in the USA. Our client is an American multinational company that operates, franchises, and licenses lodging, including hotel, residential, and timeshare properties. Also, it’s the largest hotel chain in the world by the number of available rooms. The company is based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, and encompasses a portfolio of nearly 8,300 properties under 30 leading brands spanning 138 countries and territories. The candidate will be immersed in cloud development, design, integration, operation, and infrastructure services support. Work with operational, application, and engineering experts to develop, implement and maintain services, monitoring, reporting, PV migrations, and new automation functionalities for comprehensive solutions that meet and/or exceed the client’s application requirements. She/he will provide operational support and request fulfillment. Primary functions include designing, building, implementing, and troubleshooting cloud-related issues, completing requests, lifecycle management, capacity, health and performance management, continuous service improvement, business, and technical analyses, reporting, and project management. She/he will support the client’s cloud in a hybrid operating system environment and work efficiently with the technology providers and other engineering, application, and operations teams.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in an Engineering Or Computer Science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification.
  • 7+ years of experience in an enterprise systems operational role with expertise in design, implementation, or operational support of mission-critical solutions in large-scale environments and organizations, including:
    • 5+ years of experience in an enterprise systems operational role;
    • 5+ years of experience maintaining, administrating, and supporting computer hardware and operating systems software (Examples: Windows, Unix, Linux, VMware, ESX);
    • 5+ years of experience working with converged or hyper-converged ecosystems.
Will be a plus:
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with DevOps.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native database technologies (Amazon RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB, Redis/ElastiCache, Azure Cosmos DB).
  • Ability to design end-to-end architecture that supports 99.99% service availability with performance and cost considerations.
  • Experience across many of the following platforms:
    • Public Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, AliCloud;

    • Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux, Windows, CentOS;

    • Storage: Block Storage, Object Storage, Lifecycle Management and Data Replication, Backup & Recovery Best Practices;

    • Network Virtualization: Akamai Global Traffic Management and Edge & Delivery Networks, Elastic Load Balancing Services, Domain Name Services, and Registration;

    • Security: Compliance, Information Assurance, and Data Protection using industry-best practices and tooling (CrowdStrike Falcon, Tenable.io, Splunk Phantom, HashiCorp Vault signers, SHA1 and SHA2 certificate management);

    • Applications Frameworks: Java Spring, Java Play, Node.js, Nginx, JavaEE, HTML5;

    • Database: relational (Oracle, DB2, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MSSQL Server), non-relational (Cassandra, Couchbase, MongoDB).

  • Familiarity with traditional RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL (Couchbase) database technologies.
  • Understanding middleware products like DataPower, MQSeies, JBoss, Tomcat, and Kafka.
  • One or more cloud certifications.
  • ITIL V4 foundation certification.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of current & emerging infrastructure systems & standards.
  • Strong knowledge of the best available tools, software, applications, and systems for attaining best-in-class IT technology across the enterprise.
  • Project planning and management experience.
  • Excellent understanding of change management and testing requirements, techniques, and tools.
  • Ability to create constructive relationships, influence, and communicate (to the project team, IT management, and non-technical staff).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering technology solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience learning and applying new technologies to solve business needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for various audiences, including executives, business stakeholders, and IT teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities.
Responsibilities:

Core Work Activities

  • Provide technical leadership, oversight, governance, and direction for services related to the client’s solution delivery.
  • Perform technical expertise to the project team for a successful project and change implementations.
  • Determine customer requirements and work with sourced resources to develop solutions.
  • Lead analysis of the current environment for deficiencies and provides solutions.
  • Provide input into the lifecycle, improvement, and standardization strategies.
  • Develop and generate periodic utilization reports to provide performance, capacity, availability, and SLA management visibility.
  • Utilize capacity data to model future state planning with overall strategy and goals.
  • Provide and present status, analysis, and reporting to internal stakeholders, executive management, and senior leadership.
  • Drive the objectives associated with problem management, such as customer communication and root cause analysis reports.
  • Train and/or mentor other team members and peers as appropriate.
  • Specify opportunities to enhance the service delivery, operations, and continual service improvement processes.
  • Identify best-in-class software and hardware products to meet the needs of a world-class development team.
  • Develop implementation plans, test plans, and timelines for projects and tasks.

Delivering Technology

  • Provide oversight, management, and maintenance of technology products and service alternatives that improve the client’s cloud environment.
  • Work concerted with operational, application development, and engineering teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Perform closely with department leadership and service providers to support the alignment of plans with solution delivery.
  • Create and enhance administrative, operational, and technical policies and procedures, adopting best practice guidelines, standards, and strategies for employees, contractors, and vendor engagements.
  • Develop internal SOPs, processes, and training to ensure Infrastructure team members have the needed skills and tools to support the production environments and deliver on project commitments.
  • Develop and maintain runbooks and knowledge base articles and offers guidance and training to Operations Center personnel.
  • Manage daily infrastructure operations to ensure availability SLA is met for cloud services.
  • Provide input into infrastructure lifecycle, improvement, and standardization strategies.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses for operational availability to promote a zero-defect environment.
  • Lead/assist operational teams in infrastructure system updates & upgrades.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, including updates and patches to the client’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Provide consultation for routine and complex systems development.
  • Be responsible for establishing and continuously developing monitoring and alerting for all production environments.
  • Ensure early warning to the business stakeholder executives regarding degraded or missed service levels.
  • Coordinate with project managers and application engineers for deployment and production support activities.
  • Facilitate the achievement of expected deliverables and obligations of service providers.
  • Service Provider Management
  • Ensure proper coordination with appropriate IT and vendor relations teams
  • Manage service providers with a focus on continuous service improvement and service evolution
  • Monitor, manage, and lead service provider outcomes required to ensure operational availability and a zero-defect production environment.
  • Consult with internal service management & external service providers on performance, business reporting, analytics metrics, and business value dashboards.
