Job description

If so, Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an opportunity available for a Senior Tax Accountant supporting the Corporate Finance & Accounting Department in our New Canaan, CT headquarters office. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the Controller.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to:
- Prepare federal, state, and city tax returns and ensure they are accurate, timely prepared, and filed.
- Prepare the tax provision and all supporting documentation using One Source Tax Provision software.
- Prepare extensions for federal and state returns.
- Prepare and file federal and state income tax estimated payments on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare state apportionment data.
- Maintain accurate book and tax depreciation schedules.
- Prepare deferred tax schedules and supporting documentation.
- Identify and implement improvements and efficiencies to tax provision and compliance processes.
- Coordinate with the public accounting firm as part of the annual audit.
- Ensure that tools, policies, and guidelines that Moran’s senior management puts in place are complied with accurately. This ensures that Moran abides by IRS rules as well as state and city fiscal requirements.
- Assist the Controller with tax audits by outside regulatory agencies.
- Respond to notices from tax authorities.
- Research tax positions and prepare technical tax and accounting memos to support tax and accounting positions for transactions.
- Coordinate property tax filings and payments, including researching strategies for reducing potential exposure.
- Prepare sales and use taxes and other tax filings in all jurisdictions to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.
- Oversee reporting and paying of local, state, and federal taxes.
- Prepare forecasts of effective tax rates and cash taxes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Accounting.
- 3 years of experience in public accounting or corporate accounting roles.
- Intermediate to advanced computer Microsoft Office literacy and the ability and willingness to learn and use additional computer programs specific to Moran.
- Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and think analytically to find solutions.
- Ability to plan and organize to balance and prioritize work, work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to prepare tax returns and other documentation in an organized, precise, and meticulous manner with extreme detail orientation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA certification.
- MBA.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters Onesource Provision, Onesource Income Tax, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central (previously NAV).

- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; frequently walk; frequently reach with hands and arms; finger dexterity for handling paper and typing; occasionally crouch and stoop; occasionally lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds; speak, hear, and see (close vision and color vision).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability and willingness to work on a hybrid schedule with two (2) days/week in the office, with remote work an option for the remaining days of the week.
