Mary Cook Associates, a nationally acclaimed commercial interior design firm located in Chicago, is seeking a part time Installer with a proven track record, to help install our Model Home and Multi-Unit Residential projects. MCA’s skilled in-house installers apply more than a decade of experience to oversee all aspects of the installation. From receiving and unloading deliveries, to performing a quality check, arranging all furniture and furnishings, and hanging and securing artwork, MCA configures interiors that are market ready.

This position requires the handling of furniture products in a careful and safe manner while ensuring proper assembly techniques, and great care when installing furniture and moving it from place to place to prevent dents, scratches, and other damage. It may be necessary to prepare and pack furniture for safe transport, and this job can be physically strenuous, as it involves lifting heavy items, performing repetitive motions, and bending and stooping. The ability to read blueprints and other technical documents may also be necessary to install certain types of furniture.

Teamwork skills are important in this position to work well with other installers and team leaders, and good manual dexterity and the ability to use hand and power tools are essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently assemble, install, and inspect furniture, furnishings, and accessories
  • Assist with loading and unloading of trucks
  • Inspecting and reporting of damages
  • Maintaining a neat and tidy workspace throughout each installation
  • Review floor plans and has a knowledge of space planning
  • Problem solving / troubleshooting / decision making
  • Organization and compliance of company policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Ensure each job is executed professionally, comprehensively, and completely
  • Work with the client and staff to ensure all contractual requirements are met
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and all team members
  • Adherence to all safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to identify the firm’s design fundamentals
  • Demonstrate a high level of professional integrity by taking pride, ownership, and responsibility for self, as well as team member’s work
  • Act as a positive influence for the employees and leaders
  • Availability to travel throughout the country up to 5 days at a time

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of experience moving furniture and furnishings. Successful related experience includes warehouse, assembly, construction, movers, carpentry, technicians
  • Experience using a computer / laptop or electronic tablets
  • Good communication skills
  • Spatial reasoning skills
  • Experience in using hand and electric tools to assemble furniture, install artwork, or hang drapery
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation
  • Current / valid driver’s license a requirement
