TITLE: Social Studies Teacher w/ $6000 signing bonus
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB FUNCTION: The Teacher shall serve as the educational leader in his/her classroom.
DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Houghton Lake Community Schools has approximately 1,200 students and is located in the center of the Lower Peninsula in northern Michigan. Our families enjoy the benefits of living in an area thriving on tourism as most of our district surrounds beautiful Houghton
Lake. We have about 100 school of choice students from outside of the district and county.
Currently, 17% of our students qualify for special education services.
The District has three preschool classrooms, one PreK-6th grade elementary school, one 7th- 12th grade Jr. Sr. High school and extensive alternative education opportunities at our Community
Education building. Career and technical education opportunities are available as well as Advanced
Placement and Dual Enrollment college courses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of the district curriculum and engaging high-quality instruction.
● Establish a classroom culture that supports non-academic needs, through the student support network district system, of all students in order to remove barriers that interfere with academic success.
● Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
● Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
● Develop and deliver schemes of work, lesson plans and assessments that are in accordance with the district curriculum and aligned to state standards.
● Observe and evaluate each student’s performance and development.
● Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
● Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
● Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, provide appropriate feedback on work, and use information to adjust teaching strategies according to student need.
● Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
● Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
● Participate in collaborative and collegial department/grade level, school, district, and parent
meetings.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
● Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in 6-12 Social
Studies (RX)
Preferred:
● Previous classroom teaching experience in a comparable district.
● Possess certification or endorsement in another subject/content area
