This position will be filled at either the Solutions Architect 3 / Solutions Architect 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
This job location is at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), located in Mercury, Nevada, approximately 60 north of Las Vegas.
eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Solutions Architect 3/4 for the XIT Classified Systems Services (XIT-CSS) group. XIT-CSS consists of approximately 85 professionals, technicians, and students. XIT division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
Solutions Architect 3 ($109,100 - $182,000)
The successful candidate will work at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) supporting institutional and programmatic customers at locations across the site, performing a wide variety of system administration activities for unclassified and classified servers and workstations, including but not limited to:
- Serve as Functional Area IT Lead and provide technical leadership and architectural direction to solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment
- Monitor and support Corporate and Isolated Networks and Core Infrastructure Services, such as Active Directory, Storage Systems, Backups, VMWare Virtual Servers, DNS, DHCP, and Citrix in both unclassified and classified environments
- Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to mitigate security concerns within the environment and provide advanced technical support to the user community
- Evaluate cyber security impacts of operating systems/network protocols, applications, and hardware
- Provide expertise for complex installations, perform security patching and hardware and/or software upgrades using independent judgment to resolve complex systems and network-related problems
- Independently resolve problems, requiring expert knowledge of one or more platforms (e.g., Windows, VMWare, Active Directory, Citrix, COMSEC, etc.)
- Automate tasks using programming and scripting
- Ensure data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
- Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines
- Lead complex projects that require in-depth analysis, gathering of customer requirements, and cross-discipline solution sets
- Manage projects from inception through implementation, including project management, documentation, and training of users, system administrators, or others who may maintain or use the end products
- Interact with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner, including mentoring, coaching, or giving presentations
- Interact with management and staff from multiple DOE Laboratories
Solutions Architect 4 ($131,900 - $221,900)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Solutions Architect 4 will be required to:
- Plan, design, document and implement complex technical solutions
- Research and test emerging technologies to ensure adherence to compliance requirements
- Architect, configure and manage storage and backup solutions
- Implement Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG)
- Use authentication methods such as Active Directory, Smartcard and Kerberos; standard network protocols, especially NFS, CIFS; ability to analyze and implement appropriate network and host security frameworks, including firewalls and traffic monitoring as needed
- Work effectively in a team environment to provide technical leadership, resolve issues, prioritize tasks, assist and mentor fellow team members, and participate in continuous process improvement efforts
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Wide-ranging experience administering Windows operating systems and/or Virtual environments and related hardware
- Knowledge of information security, as an Information Systems Security Officer, or an equivalent cyber role with demonstrated knowledge and experience in authoring and testing system security plans
- Extensive experience with vulnerability remediation including utilization of cyber-related tools for auditing, compliance verification, vulnerability testing, system patching and continuous monitoring
- Extensive experience setting up large enterprise-level servers, developing and managing security policies for departmental or enterprise environments
- Experience with project management including specifying, budgeting, scheduling, testing and implementing server and workstation solutions
Additional Job Requirements for Solutions Architect 4 :
- Expert knowledge of Windows operating systems and/or Virtual environments and related hardware
- Expert level knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client/server principles
- Extensive experience managing a large network or having a leadership role that impacts a large number of systems, including specific experience in central configuration management for networks of computers in heterogeneous computing environment (unclassified and/or classified environments)
- Extensive experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Computer Security and/or Networking Protocols (unclassified and/or classified environments)
Training/Certifications: Advanced vendor certification
Education/Experience at Solutions Architect 3:Position requires a minimum of 10-15 years of related experience. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be desirable.
Education/Experience at Solutions Architect 4: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 15 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, postgraduate coursework may be expected.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance
- Active Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification
- Knowledge of Web-based technologies including Web page development and maintenance and Web-based tools and utilities
- Knowledge of/certified for DOE COMSEC program ad operations
- Experience securing Operating Systems using NIST and STIG cyber security frameworks

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
