Premier non-profit is seeking a Special Education Teacher for one of its vastly growing programs. Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year-round comprehensive education and treatment program, servicing children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders. Founded in 1988 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching methodologies in improving the lives of individuals with ASD and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, vocational skills, and assessment & treatment of challenging behavior.
Overview of Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, refinement, and maintenance of behavior analysis educational and treatment programs, under the direction of the program Director, Director of Special Education, or designated Behavior Analyst
- Implement and supervise the implementation of behavior analysis educational and treatment programs by lead teacher assistants and teacher assistants
- Assist in trainings, monitoring of treatment integrity, and program evaluation
- Facilitate student transitions into the program, within the program, and from the program to other educational settings.
- Provide consultation and educational opportunities to the community under the direction of supervisors
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in education and special education with noted certification in Secondary or All grades required
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods
- Experience developing individual child curriculum preferred, as well as experience in training others to implement behavior analytic teaching practices and behavioral/ educational measurement
- Ability to manage the broad range of needs presented by students with autism, including significant challenging behaviors
- Ability to assist student with self-care and toileting
- Skills in effective communication with parents and community based officials are essential
- Must obtain and maintain pediatric CPR certification
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and successfully pass a pre-employment physical
- Must have a valid driver's license, safe driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport

Location Description
Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year round comprehensive education and treatment program servicing children with autism and other related disorders. Founded in 1998 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching strategies in improving the lives of children with autism and other related developmental disorders and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, and assessment and treatment of challenging behavior. A one-to one ratio of behavior technicians trained in Applied Behavior Analysis is typically utilized, although small and large group instruction may be used with students who achieve the skills to learn in such settings. A comprehension system of student evaluation allows for daily refinement of students programs. Behavior Analyst’s train, supervise and collaborate with Special Education Teacher’s, Behavior Technician’s, Related Service Professionals and community based treatment staff in implementation of behavior analytic teaching methodologies. Individual student curriculum and programs are designed to treat problem behavior and teach socially appropriate skills. Relevant measurement systems are used ongoing to assess student progress. Pathway’s provides opportunity to conduct research projects and works closely with local University’s and College’s.
