POSITION SUMMARY: Operate various hand tools throughout the shop. Assist skilled machine operators or production personnel as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate various machinery in shop including large drill presses, 200 ton press, large shears and punches with assistance.
  • Set-up machines, select material, perform duties with speed and accuracy.
  • Carry out written assignments, read and understand bill of materials, lay out by template or otherwise within capabilities.
  • Responsible for daily care and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested including grinding, tack welding, grinding, cleaning steel, etc.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, regarding daily functions, safety rules and regulations, and possible hazardous conditions.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (in addition to Specialist 2)

  • Should be able to independently operate a bridge crane and rigging.
  • Proficiently read a tape measure.
  • Ability to develop more specialized skills in such areas as welding, blueprint readings, machine operation.
  • General mathematical skills for counting, add, subtract dimensions, etc.
  • Intermediate understanding of fabrication drawings.
  • Basic skills in the use of hand and power tools and equipment such as Bevellers, Drill, Saws, Torch, Track burner.
  • Run any manual equipment as directed by supervisor.
  • Knowledge of the use of tapes, squares, etc. Capable of keeping simple records.
  • Some knowledge of, or ability to familiarize self with, the fabrication plant and equipment.
  • Operate various machinery in shop including large drill presses, 200 ton press, large shears and punches with assistance.
  • Set-up and operate machines, select material, perform duties with speed and accuracy.
  • Responsible for daily care and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Should be able to layout parts from drawings, for drilling or beveling.
  • Carry out written assignments, read and understand bill of materials, lay out by template or otherwise within capabilities.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested including grinding, cleaning steel, etc. with minimal supervision.
  • Run any non- CNC equipment as an expert.
  • Maintain, change blades and tooling
  • Know when changes need to happen
  • Proficient at finding needed information on drawings
  • Can weld enough for fixtures
  • General mathematical skills for counting and calculating lay-outs. etc.; optimize material usage.
  • Knowledge of the use of tapes, squares, etc.
  • Capable of keeping simple records.
  • Developing specialized skills, with certain equipment, such as:
    • Band saw
    • Peddinghaus
    • Burn table
    • Forming
    • Programing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift, carry 60 lbs., or maneuver objects, difficult objects will be lifted with the assistance of mechanical means or additional workers.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
  • Capable of working off ladders and scaffolding.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • May be exposed to excessive noise, welding gases and fumes, and varying weather conditions. Proper protective equipment will be provided as necessary.
