POSITION SUMMARY:

To work as part of the YMCA Leadership Team by providing leadership, vision, program growth and staff development for aspects of the daily operations in the Sports and Special Events programming. As a key leader on the Leadership Team, the Sports Coordinator will provide extraordinary customer service, communications, and programming to current and prospective YMCA members. The Sports Director will develop program guidance with staff that will enable them to reach their full potential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MISSION DRIVEN:

- Incorporate the YMCA character development Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in our daily routine and incorporate these character traits when interacting with staff and members.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Available to answer questions and promote YMCA membership.
- Provide input into and manage implementation of the program promotion plan.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow staff and members of all ages and backgrounds
- Oversee Youth and Adult Sports
- Oversee Special Events/Tournaments
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for planning and implementation of Youth/Adult Sports and Special Events.
- Responsible for knowing, understanding, and overseeing the implementation of all sports programs under regulations necessary to ensure a quality program.
- Work hands-on building the YMCA sports programs, including game day supervision, set-up/tear down, refereeing, monitoring, score keeping, etc
- Provide appropriate input on program additions and changes.
SUPERVISION:
- Leads, coaches and mentors a high-performing and engaging Sports Department with approximately 8-10 part-time staff.
- Provides leadership in the daily operations of the Sports Department. Communicates across departments to inspire member focused culture that results in increased member retention.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, schedule, supervision, and evaluation of the Sports Department.
- Assist in conduction of staff meetings/training’s as needed to keep staff informed and certified.
- Develop and implement training process for staff to prepare them for work
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Monitor income and expenses and stay within budget of all programs. All variances must be reported to CEO with explanations.
- Provide input into the development of sports department budget.
- Responsible to monitor staffing patterns and make recommendations or needed changes to Program Operations Director and CEO
FACILITY MANAGEMENT:
- Facilities are safe, free of clutter, functional and ready for programming.
- Coordinate with property manager and supervisor on all concerns with equipment, facility space issues and cleanliness of program areas.
MEETINGS & COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in Bi-weekly Leadership Meetings.
- Available for staff meetings and trainings when necessary.
- Serve on Program focused task forces as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- BA/BS in related field or similar experience
- Previous management experience in recruitment, training, supervision of staff and volunteer groups.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, particularly evening and weekend hours.
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills.
- Strong leadership and excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to set the standards for and model exceptional member service and build a culture of member involvement and engagement in all staff.
- A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team.
- Sound judgment and decision making as well as problem solving and interpersonal skills to relate to people of all socio-economic levels and diverse backgrounds.
