This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Senior/Project Manager is responsible for accomplishing project objectives by planning and evaluating project activities. The role requires regular analytical and metrics-based reporting to other staff, board members, and stakeholders.
Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective execution of project tasks- Assist project team members, Subject Matter Experts, and Sponsor with the definition of project scope and objectives by involving relevant stakeholders, identifying requirements and ensuring technical feasibility
- Work with impacted areas of the company to secure adequate resources, materials and funding
- Develop detailed project schedule with some assistance from Program Manager and/or Scheduler.
- Perform continued maintenance, updating and tracking of project schedule activities and progress reporting
- Identify and manage dependencies between departments, systems, vendors and assets
- Coordinate Assessment of changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
- Manage project changes through established Governance Change Control process to ensure appropriate approvals
- Identify and document project issues and risks and monitor progress of mitigation actions.
- Successfully establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external resources and key project stakeholders involved in project tasks and key critical path deliverables
- Monitor of vendor’s delivery timeline and escalate of vendor related issues through the appropriate escalation process
- Develop and maintain of required project management artifacts in accordance with Amtrak Project Management standards and applicable regulations
- Identify efficiencies and recommend of process improvements to reduce costs and add value.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of project management experience, or any equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Solid project management skills with prior experience managing medium complexity projects involving multiple departments
- Strong communication skills with focus on collaboration, team building, and customer service
- Experience with managing cross-functional teams and cross-organizational implementations with multiple dependencies
- Ability to consolidate project performance data into various types of communication and reporting vehicles to address both management and project team level audiences
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project),
- PMP (Must be willing to obtain within 12 months of date of hire)
- Must have work authorization in the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Six (6) plus years of practitioner experience with project management.
- Graduate degree
- Transportation industry experience
- Direct or matrixed people management experience is a plus
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $80,580 - $104,430 for the Project Mgr and $96,160-$124,630 for the Sr Project Mgr. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for public transportation ( Title 6 U.S.C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
