Location: 2601 Dan Ave, Jonesboro

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This safety sensitive position (SS) Equipment Operator or Driver is responsible for servicing assigned route(s) with the collection and hauling of waste or vegetative waste materials to a disposal site or City of Jonesboro Yard Waste site. This position routinely requires extensive physical exertion (lifting, pushing, and pulling trash receptacles weighing up to 75 pounds each from the ground approximately 300-500 times per day) and entering/exiting the truck approximately 600-1000 times per day. Drivers are exposed to extreme weather conditions and unpleasant odors and sights. The hours and physical demand may vary by route or area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operate truck in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. This duty is performed daily.

2. Provide waste or vegetative waste removal services to residents on assigned route(s) by emptying trash receptacles, yard waste bags, and/or limbs into truck and hauling to disposal site. This duty is performed daily.

3. Replace trash receptacles and dumpsters neatly at the curb or designated area. This duty is performed daily.

4. Clean up waste spills and overflows. This duty is performed daily.

5. Maintain and update route sheets. This duty is performed daily.

6. Conduct pre-trip/post trip inspections and complete logs. This duty is performed daily.

7. Performs such routine maintenance on the truck as greasing the parts, checking air pressure, and checking fluid levels. Inform supervisor of needed repairs. This duty is performed daily.

8. Maintain and update drivers log sheets. This duty is performed daily.

9. Professional interaction with internal and external customers. This duty is performed daily.

10. Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body. This duty is performed daily.

11. Wash outside of truck and inside the bed. This duty is performed weekly.

12. Clean inside of truck daily. This duty is performed daily.

13. Transports refuse to the landfill, and capable of driving truck safely on the landfill. This duty is performed daily.

14. Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.

15. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement
