Job Duties
This position is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during the wage employment year (May 1 – April 30). This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.
The Central Office Structure and Bridge Division is seeking a part-time Engineer in the Structure & Bridge Maintenance Management section. The selected candidate will serve as a multi-skilled bridge asset management engineer and will assist with: developing and implementing bridge management system analysis, life cycle cost analysis and optimization, funding analysis, maintenance management systems, and dashboards; integrating various systems and platforms; and developing comprehensive reports. The selected candidate will also: analyze asset deterioration models, funding scenarios and/or constraints in order to maximize bridge asset service life, minimize their life cycle costs, determine predictive indicators of low performance, and determine the most effective maintenance and construction practices; and coordinate interdisciplinary coordination of review and interpretation of reports by other disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal candidate should have experience with spreadsheets, programming languages (such as Python, Matlab, Visual Basic, SQL) and problem-solving skills, experience with statistical analysis and modeling, and the ability to interpret and utilize data effectively.
- Additionally, they should be well-versed in data analytics techniques and Data management tools.
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related field; Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may substitute for degree.
- The ideal candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively with a team, and have excellent communication and organizational skills and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree with concentration in Civil or Systems Engineering or Data Science, preferred; Experience with data analysis, statistical analysis, optimization, life cycle cost analysis, multi-objective prioritization analysis.
- Experience with Excel, Python, Access, Tableau, Power BI, statistical software, SQL and VBA for complex data analysis.
- Knowledge of Asset management, deterioration modeling, Bridge National Inventory (NBI) and NBE bridge element inspection data, and preservation and preventative maintenance practices.
- Additionally, any certifications or professional degree related to engineering or data science will be highly beneficial.
