POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Student Information Data Specialist plays an integral role in ensuring the integrity of student information in KIPP DC’s student information system, PowerSchool SIS. This position works with our schools to ensure student information is collected, entered, and maintained in an efficient and accurate manner. This work is critical for ensuring that such student information is able to be leveraged by instructional leaders, school staff, and the Information team to make student-focused decisions, and that the external reporting of this data is fully accurate. The optimal candidate for this role has a keen eye for details, is a strong project manager, can manage multiple deadlines, and can prioritize competing priorities. This position reports to the Senior Director of Student Information Systems.
The Student Information Data Specialist will serve as the frontline Powerschool SIS expert for at least two campuses. They will need to effectively collaborate within and across teams to achieve data goals.
In this role, regular travel to school sites is necessary to build relationships with school-based staff. As with all of our teammates, you will play a critical role in actively confronting and combating institutional racism within and beyond KIPP DC through our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Management & Systems Integration - 45%
- Enters and manages student enrollments in PowerSchool, including new and returning enrollments year to year, withdrawals, transfers within schools, and location of services enrollments for specialized programs.
- Execute the start-of year setup, scheduling, and rostering work for a subset of schools.
- Manage the end-of-term process and rollout of report cards for a subset of schools, which include verifying the grade completion, store grades and GPA, review final reports, and electronically distribute to families and school staff.
- Work within the Information team to understand user accounts and requirements for access to data reporting and learning platforms.
Data Collection and Data Quality Control - 30%
- Implement the processes that ensure the accurate, consistent collection and maintenance of student information in PowerSchool SIS, which connects to additional platforms for internal and external use.
- Export and manipulate data to generate reports for a target audience.
- Execute a monthly audit of student information and schedule data including, but not limited to demographics, grades, course enrollments, and master schedule.
- Support and complete any state required data submissions administered by the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education and Public Charter School Board, which includes ensuring the data accuracy for internal and external reporting.
Problem Solving - 15%
- Respond and provide support to school-based staff, district staff, families, and students with expert troubleshooting and coaching regarding the PowerSchool SIS and PowerTeacher gradebook.
- Identify and test recommended solutions prior to executing resolutions in a test environment.
- Prioritize and manage support tickets through Zendesk, where school and district staff can email student information requests and concerns.
Process Documentation and Training - 10%
- Train and support school and district staff regarding PowerTeacher Pro, Online Registration, and/or other platforms that are directly connected to PowerSchool SIS.
- Assist in documenting the practices, protocols, and systems developed for the SIS in order to ensure consistent and accurate practices going forward and provide step-by-step guidance to school and district staff.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
- 2+ years of work experience and Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience in a school or school district is preferred.
- Proficiency in use of computers and software such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, and database systems is a plus.
- Outstanding project management and organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders, partners, and audiences.
- Solutions-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:
- The anticipated starting salary for this position is $65,105-$77,504. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
- KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
- KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
- Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
- As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will have approximately 20% flexibility to work remotely.
