Lifeguards and Swim Instructors Camp Grossman

Are you someone with lifesaving training and certification or are you interested in being trained to be a lifeguard or swim instructor? This lakeside, team oriented position is a fun way to use your talents while building children’s skills and happy summer memories. JCC Greater Boston offers free camp bus service from over 30+ communities in the Greater Boston area, making it possible for staff to receive transportation from their home communities.

This position will pay $5,903 for the season as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours employees will work, scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. The camp season is June 26 - August 18. Hours are from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Orientation takes place the week of June 19, and staff meetings take place on various Monday evenings. Most counselors and staff also work 1 or 2 additional family nights or overnights, depending on their position in camp.

Camp Grossman is a day camp located in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation. Camp Grossman welcomes 1,500 campers and 300 staff each summer. The team is a dynamic group, which works to create a wonderful experience for children while assisting them in building confidence and skills. Our alumni can tell you: Camp Grossman summers are an amazingly enjoyable way to spend your summers while developing great skills such as communication, leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Work in partnership with peers and camp leadership to provide a happy, safe and memorable summer for children

· Ensure camper safety at all times, both in and out of the water, setting tone which emphasizes waterfront safety while encouraging fun

· Teach children about waterfront rules and safety practices

· May be asked to participate in planning and overseeing of some general camp activities

· Depending on assignment, additional responsibilities may include: lifeguarding, providing swimming lessons, managing supplies as well as helping campers develop confidence through mentoring and encouragement

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must have completed 10th grade (or equivalent) and be at least 16 years of age

· Current lifeguarding certificate or willingness to become certified (JCC Greater Boston will provide training)

· Thrive in an outdoor setting daily

· Strong teamwork and relationship building skills, ability to multitask, manage situations effectively and diplomatically

· Able to make learning fun

· Patience, flexibility and a sense of humor

· Excellent group management skills

· Truly enjoys working with children

· A strong desire to make a difference every day

· Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with campers, co-workers, and camp leadership

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Able to see, hear and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services

· Capable of working in a high temperature, sunny and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment

· Able to make safety related decisions and perform CPR and/or first aid, as required

· Read, write, understand and speak English

· Must maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to competently perform all job related tasks including the ability to swim distances and dive to swimming area depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment

· Must be able to use a computer
