Schedule: Monday – Friday; 40 hour flexible schedule with potential of a hybrid work environment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (DESCRIPTION):


The Sustainability Coordinator will:

  • Promote energy efficient smart technologies;
  • Evaluate and assist implementing low impact service delivery methods;
  • Encourage strong environmental practices and stewardship.

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive town-wide sustainability program. This position will work across all Town departments to promote, enhance, and coordinate sustainable and resilient Town operations such as (but not limited to) solid waste management, motor fleet, facility maintenance, community education and outreach, and energy efficiency and waste reduction. Work is performed under the supervision of the Budget and Performance Management Director. The Coordinator will have analytic support from Budget & Performance Analysts in the department.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS (DUTIES & TASKS):

  • Provide support for the Town’s strategic initiatives related to Town sustainability and resiliency.
  • Advise Town staff on implementing sustainable and resilient practices in operations, policies, and long-range planning.
  • Develop Town sustainability program and roadmap.
  • Represent the Town’s sustainability and environmental interests at local, regional, and state levels.
  • Promote sustainability within the organization and the values of good stewardship and responsibility including employee education, standard procedures, and policies.
  • Develop baseline assessments of sustainability policies, practices, curriculum, and research and provides recommendations for policy and program improvements.
  • Work with town departments to develop and track sustainability metrics.
  • Conduct Return on Investment (ROI) analyses to assist with sustainability related investment and policy development decision-making processes.
  • Facilitate progress on energy management initiatives including renewable technologies such as solar.
  • Work with departments to provide technical support and staff training regarding energy efficiency and environmental impacts of work.
  • Work with staff to develop, implement, and monitor sustainable facility guidelines for new Town facilities, making energy efficiency a priority consideration in the design of new construction and renovation projects.
  • Develop and coordinate collaborative partnerships with government, non-profit and community

WHAT YOU'LL NEED (MINIMUM MUST-HAVES):

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, public administration, public policy, GIS, data analytics, business administration, process improvement, or closely related discipline.
  • Two years of experience in one of the following areas: sustainability, project management, data analytics, public policy, process improvement, business or public administration. Strong project management experience, process coordination, organizational skills and/or certification such as Lean Six Sigma desired.

  • Analytical skills including cost-benefit analysis

  • Sustainability, Climate, Equity, Resilience principles and concepts
  • Project management, process improvement, and research principles and resources
  • Data tracking and analysis; analytical and statistical concepts and tools (including Microsoft Excel)
  • Organizational/online platforms for managing projects, workflows, budgeting, communications, etc.
    Local government financial, grant administration and management concepts
  • Microsoft Office suite and methods of techniques for data collection, research, and report preparation
