For over 117 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.

After School Plus provides structured activities for children ages 5-12, and is designed for working parents who want their children to be in a highly stabilized educational environment. The program operates during the New York City school year and offers recreation, art, homework help, social skills development and creative writing. All activities serve to reinforce what each student is learning in school.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Under the Direction of the Project Director the Teachers Aide will organize program activities: recreational, social, cultural, awareness and communication within the program.

• Promoting physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional well-being of students / children.
• Providing adequate supervision of all children / students during all enrichment / learning activities.
• Preparing daily activity logs (lesson plans), record student attendance, & complete reports in a timely manner.
• Ability to complete staff development training pursuant to the guidelines issued by the NYC DOH and NYS OCFS
• Ability to assist group leader with active student engagement as well as productive classroom Supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• GED or H.S. Diploma preferred
• Available and willing to work evening hours this includes program shows, staff meetings, field trips, and/or medical emergencies.
• Experience working with children or young adults.
• Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed between 5-10 pounds.
• Ability to walk up and down stairs
• Required to talk, hear, see, stand, walk, sit, use hands & arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, & crawl.
• Transportation time spent commuting between sites for meetings, trainings, in-services, and home visits.
