Job Summary/Basic Function
Millersville University is accepting applications for a Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching ENTC 208:Entertainment Technology Practicum while serving as University Theatre Technical Director.

Required Qualifications
  • MA/MFA in Theatre or related discipline.
  • Experience working in an academic theatrical environment.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.

  • Successful teaching demonstration for class teaching assignments.

Job Description
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
The teaching assignment is to deliver ENTC208: Practicum while serving as the Technical Director for one department/University Theatre show per semester. On the instructional side the assignment includes: setting practicum’s learning objectives, and supervising, instructing and evaluating students in the context of a department/University Theatre show. On the Technical Directorship side the assignment includes: ensuring effective practical learning experience for the students, collaborating with the Entertainment Techology Support Manager, Director of Dramatics and the University Theatre Production Manager through pre-production, production, and post-production; providing direction and coordination of all technical areas (lights, sound, video, properties, costuming etc); generating construction drawings and facilitating scenic and properties build, installation, and strike of all scenic elements; attending production meetings, load-in, work calls, and technical rehearsals plus performances (as needed); instructing or assisting students as needed in order to complete all show elements.
ENTC 208: Practicum is described in the University catalog as: “students’ experiential learning through production of entertainment and events, including live entertainment technicians and designers: Scenic/Carpentry, Costume/Wardrobe, Properties, Lighting/Electric, Sound/Audio, Video, and other entertainment technology areas. Open to all majors. 1, 2, and 3 credit sections offered regularly. Pre/Co-Req: THEA 120 – Stagecraft. Requires permission of instructor through application or interview.”

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students. This position requires in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :
Located within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Communication and Theatre offers a Bachelor of Science in Communication with concentrations in Public Relations, Digital Communication and Cultural Studies, Journalism and Theatre; a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts Production; and a Bachelor of Arts in Entertainment Technology. The Department also offers minors in Strategic Public Relations, Media Arts Production and Theatre.

  • Need to have familiarity with proper techniques of materials handling; will come in contact with solvents and wood dust.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, submit grades online, use email, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses.
  • Teach at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or shop equipment.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other tools.
