Job Title: Technician, Heavy Vehicle

Manager: Director of Fleet Operations

Direct Reports: Al Burruss

Other Key Team / Positions: Live Dock, Shipping Dock.

Key Responsibilities:
Service and Maintain Class 8 heavy-duty truck and trailer equipment.

Service and maintain other miscellaneous equipment such as Yard spotter tractors, Forklifts, and or any other like-kind equipment.

Use safety equipment: Eyeglasses, cutting tool guards, jack stands, latters, etc.

Maintain a safe work environment. Keep the work area clean and organized.

Help in other areas or departments as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Frequently required to walk, climb, and move in tight spaces; frequently required to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, and controls; must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; must be able to lift and move heavy components while in tight spaces (Starters, water pumps, hydraulic pumps, PTOs and so on); visions abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust vision focus; work is mostly performed in a truck shop setting with the moderate noise level in the working environment; work is often performed outside of the truck shop in the summer heat and the cold of winter.

Skills and Knowledge:
General Service and PM Maintain skills and knowledge on Class 8 heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

Trouble-shooting knowledge and experience with heavy vehicle lighting systems, cranking systems, charging systems, air brake systems, Heavy vehicle brake components, wheel seals, and axle bearing components.

Overall General knowledge of all types of heavy-duty truck vehicles, systems, and components.

Ability to read and write in English

Good English Communication skills. Spanish as a second language is optional.

Knowledge of risk management and process safety management programs.

Electrical abilities: Use of Volt Ohm meter for all vehicle electrical systems.

Basic computer skills

Knowledge of safety precautions required while operating cutting tools, drilling, and lifting.
