Job description
Performs moderately complex technical laboratory work in the Department of Neurological Surgery surgical skills lab, including scheduling and coordinating training sessions or events with manager; preparing laboratories for, and assisting in the technical instruction of learners; care and maintenance of the laboratory and surgical equipment and apparatus; dispensing surgical supplies to learners as directed; maintaining records of supplies issued, maintaining inventory of laboratory disposables and supplies, and performing workplace related cleaning and organizational duties as required or assigned by manager.
- Provides technical support for surgical training programs (GME, UME, CME, Non-CME).
- Assists manager in organizing and implementing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and related training programs.
- Follows health and safety standards in the laboratory in accordance with NU and NMH policies.
- Supports medical education training sessions for surgical techniques, including but not limited to: organizing and preparing spaces, equipment, tissues, and supplies for surgical training sessions, responding to student and faculty needs during sessions, and cleanup after training sessions.
- Attends to needs of medical learners during regularly scheduled training sessions and on a walk-in basis.
- Collaborates with Education Coordinator on matters regarding the planning and implementation of surgical curriculum.
- Assists with surgical laboratory functions with cadaver and animal tissue, as well as in-vivo models.
- Prepares, cleans and maintains surgical instruments, and/or devices for training sessions.
- Prepares and processes cadaveric, in-vivo, and/or explanted tissue for surgical training sessions.
- Cleans and disinfects laboratory workspace.
- Maintains, orders, and organizes laboratory equipment and supplies
- Maintains inventory of surgical supplies, tissues, and disposables
- Creates orders and liaises with vendors regarding supplies and models and maintenance of equipment

Qualifications Required:
A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
Strong writing skills;
High level of organizational skills and attention to detail;
Diligent and can work independently;
Experience working with confidential information;
Professionalism;
Flexibility, adaptability in a fast paced environment.
Software Required:
MS Office suite 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
