Job description
The Licensed Professional Counselor–Associate (LPC-Associate) will coordinate the provision of counseling and social services at the Harvey E. Najim Hope Center to clients and their families who are victims of trauma or have risks that may potentially cause trauma. This position will be in office at one of the two centers at The Children’s Shelter. The LPC-Associate must be under the supervision of a Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors approved Clinical Supervisor as a requirement of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides diagnostic assessment and treatment services, including individual and group counseling sessions for the children and adults (to include telehealth services) using one or more evidence-based treatment models.
- Complete Intake and conduct an initial assessment with the referred client and their parent or guardian
- Complete individual assessments and treatment plan to address clients' mental health or emotional needs and in accordance with accepted clinical standards.
- Communicate with Hope Center Director and Project Director during staffing regularly to seek input and report on progress, case status, and counseling needs.
- Complete paperwork required for project compliance; maintain confidential data and files in accordance with Hope Center policy and procedures and licensure requirements.
- Responsible for formulating, implementing, and documenting treatment strategies for clients and their families on their assigned caseload in a timely manner.
- Participates in weekly face-to-face clinical supervision sessions with the Senior Clinical Director and/or Project Director, as needed.
- Carries a full clinical caseload and meets the needs of the Hope, Healing, and Resiliency Project.
- Maintains client records in accordance with applicable standards, including Council on Accreditation, licensing, and agency standards.
- Reports all reportable incidents, clinical emergencies, and incidents requiring crisis intervention or Abuse Hotline report to the Project Director and Senior Clinical Director.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Understands and adheres to the Code of Ethics.
- Builds and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with internal staff, community members, and clients.
- Establishes and clearly communicates performance expectations and responsibilities to staff and team.
- Promotes teamwork within team, program, and agency.
- Participates in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in areas of trauma-informed care, and fulfills the established agency's annual required staff training.
- Participates in other duties as assigned

- Provides direct clinical services, assessment/evaluation, therapy, crisis intervention, ethical and legal responsibilities, and high-quality clinical documentation.
- Provides culturally appropriate services to clients in the care.
- Contributes to building a community system that is safe, secure, and stable; family-centered; connected to the community; which relies on evidence-based practice necessary to support services in Bexar County and other outlying communities (Atascosa, Medina, Guadalupe, and Comal).
Adheres to all policies and procedures of the agency and its accrediting and standard-setting bodies, such as the Council on Accreditation (COA) and state licensing.

- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure continuity of operations.
- Master’s degree in counseling required
- Currently licensed through the State of Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors as a Professional Counseling Associate
- Preferred minimum of 6 months of clinical supervision under a Board approved clinical supervisor with counseling hours
- 2-3 years of professional, related work experience beyond a bachelor’s degree, including graduate school practicums and internships
- Demonstrated ability to work with multicultural populations, particularly Latino. Knowledge and awareness of issues of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity is important.
- Ability to set priorities and work with moderate supervision.
