Toolmaker Level 1- 2nd Shift (2:45pm-11:00pm)
Department/Group: Tool Shop

Location: Kulpsville, PA

Position Purpose Summary – Set up and operates a variety of standard and CNC metalworking machines, grinders and hand tools to manufacture molds, dies, fixtures, cutting tools and gauges, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A TOOLMAKER

  • Comply with all federal and state environmental, health and safety regulations as well as any safety policies and protocols outlined by the company.
  • Ability to read G-Code and operate CNC equipment
  • Fabricate the following tooling examples using appropriate machines and machining techniques:
  • Manually mill tunnel gates for injection molds
  • Injection molds
  • Mold sleeves and cores
  • Mold core and pin assembly
  • All elastomer tooling, gages, fixtures, pins, inserts and other components.
  • Check blueprints and make mathematical calculations necessary to correct or complete tooling.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of tools including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Check and adjust form, fit, and functionality of tooling assembly and components
  • Polish and refinish tooling surfaces to remove nicks, galling, gouges, chatter, toolmarks etc..
  • Clean and repair threaded holes
  • Inspect tool for wear and damage and make recommendations for repairs
  • Grind platen contact surfaces to new and flat condition.
  • Troubleshoot binding mold interlocks
  • Perform the above tasks without supervision while producing quality tooling within the estimated manufacturing costs.
  • Record all Information on GT data collection system as required.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes
  • Use of the wire EDM to make cutting tools necessary to make production molds.
  • Proper use of all machine shop inspection equipment.
  • Make revisions, preventative maintenance, and repairs to all types of molds and tooling as necessary.
  • Give direction to lower class Tool Maintenance Machinist who are involved in the manufacturing of tooling.
  • Perform 5S functions, including but not limited to:
  • Keep fluids (coolants, oil, etc) of equipment at recommended levels.
  • Ensure tools are properly placed clean
  • Participate on teams
  • Clean equipment
  • General housekeeping in the department.
  • Provide feedback and aid Tool Designers to improve the manufacturing of all tooling.
  • Notify supervisor of any problems that occur in the manufacture of molds, dies, and fixtures, along with cutting tools and gauges
  • Perform miscellaneous duties in the Tool Shop as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR A TOOLMAKER

  • Must be proficient with operating computers, including searching, saving, and editing files
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in tooling department

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A TOOLMAKER

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without the use of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from others.
  • Ability to work long periods of time in standing position
  • Perform job in compliance with Company’s Quality Policy (ISO 9000)
  • Perform job in a safe manner

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36.00 per hour
