Position may be filled at the Traffic Enforcement Field Service Technician level I, Grade 14, Salary: $42,577 - $68,1330.

Employee will be responsible for conducting fixed pole stationary, mobile van and portable camera enforcement in Montgomery County via the use of Safe Speed (speed camera) equipment.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Driving Automated Speed Enforcement Vehicles to predetermined locations
  • Activating and monitoring the speed enforcement mobile equipment
  • Driving to stationary camera locations across the county in all types of weather, to physically download and setup software on fixed speed camera poles using a laptop
  • Resolving minor problems encountered during enforcement operations
  • Documenting daily deployment information
  • Compiling and manipulating data
  • Assisting in unit presentation during community related activities
  • Collecting data on roadways for new enforcement sites
  • Providing testimony during court cases when needed upon hire
Additional Information:

Technicians must successfully complete certification courses on radar and lidar equipment. They must be able to work outdoors and/or in the confined environment of a van or other vehicle. Handle power tools and occasionally lift up to 45 pounds.

Technicians work an 8 hour shift, 40 hours per week. They must be able to work dayshift, evening shift and weekends. The day work hours are 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The evening shift hours are from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are required by law to download speed camera data seven (7) days a week. Our Saturday and Sunday hours are as follows: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. depending on your shift assignment.

Minimum Qualifications At the Traffic Enforcement Field Service Technician, Grade 15:

Experience: One (1) year of experience working as a Traffic Enforcement Field Service Technician (or in an equivalent position), in addition to one (1) year of experience consistant with the experience requirement for placement in the class of Traffic Enforcement Field Technician I.

At the Traffic Enforcement Field Service Technician I, Grade 14:

Experience : One (1) year of experience working in a position that involves public contact.

For all levels:

Education : Completion of high school or possession of a High School Certification of completion recognized by the State or Maryland

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Preferred Criteria
  • Experience maintaining and documenting technical or maintenance records.
  • Experience with trouble-shooting computers, cameras or other electronic equipment.
  • Experience monitoring computerized cameras or other surveillance equipment.
  • Experience working independently, particularly in operations were dispatched to complete work.
  • Experience compiling and manipulating data.
