The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) District 3 is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineer III in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below by the closing date. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies within MDOT SHA.

Nature of Work: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a project engineer on a large road or bridge construction project or a medium size bridge or roadway project with multiple complexities, or independently handling more complex engineering projects that require greater independent judgment and decision making than a Transportation Engineer II. These projects are typically characterized by their high profile and politically or environmentally sensitive nature, involving major urban interstate construction or reconstruction. Special procedures to minimize contract duration time and inconvenience to the traveling public are frequently included in the bidding documents.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

Notes:

  • Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
  • Possession of a master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.
