Job Summary and Qualifications
The VP, Development will identify, asses, and execute accretive strategic growth opportunities within the Capital Division. They will lead and/or support activities including new business development, strategic partnerships and comprehensive network development. The VP, Development should have meaningful career experience with mergers & acquisitions (hospital and other healthcare entity), independent physician practices, payer & employer relationships and innovative asset development strategies. They will be expected to represent the HCA Healthcare Capital Division independently and effectively with senior-level executives both internal and external to HCA Healthcare. They will have exposure to growth and professional development with leadership at many levels within HCA Healthcare and access to a robust strategy & development peer group across the HCA Healthcare enterprise. This position reports to the Senior VP, Strategy & Development and will collaborate with the Division Service Line and Strategic Planning leaders as well as Hospital Executive Leadership and other Division key stakeholder groups.
Key Focus Areas
Network Development
- Assessment of existing assets and identification of opportunities to strengthen and expand network/access through de novo/acquired: Hospitals, ASCs, Free-Standing Emergency Rooms (FSERs), Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs), Imaging centers, Outreach sites, Primary Care sites, Specialty Clinics, Telehealth programs/relationships and Post-Acute Care (Home Health, Hospice, SNF, etc.)
- Strategic oversight, leadership of regulatory requirements related to network development such as Certificate of Need (CON) in certain geographies
- Identification of new or novel opportunities for asset expansion or enhancement
- Development of business case proposals for division and group leadership in collaboration with key stakeholders (facility, market and division leadership, analytics, strategic service lines, real estate, design & construction, finance, etc.)
- Leadership and/or support in development of coordinated implementation plan(s) for approved projects
Business Development
- Ongoing assessment of competitive landscape to identify gaps and risks and new targeted opportunities for growth
- Development of merger or acquisition opportunities (coordination with division and corporate development team)
- Identification and development of large physician alignment opportunities (in collaboration with Physician Services Group, Physician & Provider Relations, facility, market and division leadership)
Strategic Partnerships
- Development of strategic relationships with executive leadership of large organizations, physician practices, and state/local governments in communities served
- Identification and prioritization of strategic alignment opportunities with key organizations
- Collaboration with division and corporate strategic partnerships office and corporate payer, contracting & alignment (PCA) leadership team to assess and develop best practices
- Support of market and facility leadership teams in development of local strategic partnerships
- Partner with division colleagues on partnerships (e.g., academic affiliations)
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in business or healthcare administration.
TRAVEL: Anticipated 30% travel to Division Markets.
EXPERIENCE:
- 8-10 years of comparable experience is required.
- Experience with mergers & acquisitions is preferred.
- Experience working with multiple facilities or geographic regions preferred.
- HCA Healthcare experience is preferred.
