PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
Supervises weekend volunteers (not every weekend) performs administrative functions and assists with special projects for the Department of Volunteers. This position acts as a liaison among various hospital departments and volunteers. Coaching, counseling, and improving service are key aspects of this job. The coordinator assists with weekend referrals to the Guest Houses. The coordinator also participates in volunteer recruitment, recognition, orientation, re-orientation, and training.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Previous work experience in a position that had exposure to a variety of customers. Previous work experience and/or training in a volunteer organization preferred. Familiarity with office technology and equipment, including personal computers. Discretion and good judgment in order to screen volunteers, telephone calls, and relay confidential information. Analytical thinking, combined with creativity, in order to assist in the improvement of existing programs and the development of new volunteer placements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Functions of this job may include but are not limited to the following:
_____1. Provide supervision of weekend volunteers (not every weekend).
_____2. Practice continuous quality improvement and constantly monitor the weekend program in order to enhance service.
_____3. Develop program goals and objectives with other members of the Volunteer Services staff.
_____4. Assist with weekend referrals to the Guest Houses, assuring proper registration and accurate documentation.
_____5. Interview prospective volunteers and coordinate the interview process with other Volunteer Services staff.
_____6. Screen volunteer candidates and make assignments based on volunteer strengths and Hospital needs.
_____7. Assist with the development of a volunteer orientation program
_____8. Maintain regular contact with volunteers to assure good weekend coverage.
_____9. Communicate regularly with Hospital staff who work with volunteers and act as a liaison between the volunteers and staff, especially if problems arise.
____10. Assure ongoing volunteer motivation and appreciation by promoting an attitude of courtesy and service.
____11. Assist with recruitment in coordination with other staff.
____12. Problem solve for areas of responsibility.
____13. Counsel and coach volunteers as necessary.
____14. Participate in National Volunteer Week activities and attend Volunteer Recognition Celebration.
____15. Accept other duties as assigned by the leadership of the Department of Volunteer Services.
