Organization Description: Founded in late 2015, St. Luke’s Diaper Bank (SLDB) is a small but growing non-profit initiative, housed and supported by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. SLDB provides a week’s supply of diapers and baby wipes to nearly 500 families a month, through our partnerships with non-profit organizations throughout Kalamazoo. Our vision is to eliminate diaper need in Kalamazoo. We understand diaper need to be a consequence of economic and racial inequities, and are deeply committed to anti-racism and anti-oppressive work. SLDB seeks a part-time Volunteer Coordinator to continue the growth and reach of our organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and host volunteer events for repackaging diapers and unloading truck
  • Communicate with volunteers for distributions
  • Maintain volunteer outreach with local organizations and groups
  • Contribute to social media and website relevant information for volunteering
  • Document volunteer events with photographs and data for social media, grant proposals, and newsletters
  • Maintain volunteer database with contact information and hours
  • Routinely reach out to volunteer list with invitations to new events
  • Maintain volunteer sign up forms
  • Cover gaps in volunteering by personally repackaging diapers, unloading truck, and attending distributions
  • Handle bulk ordering of diapers and coordinating volunteers for deliveries
  • Organization of demographic information of recipients

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of challenges faced by low-income families, and knowledge of community resources
  • Qualified candidates with lived experience akin to that of the communities we serve is a plus
  • Significant commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to work independently, set and meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment. Good organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; comfort with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment.
  • Ability to analyze volunteer activities to help produce statistical data.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Google Suite
  • Valid driver’s license

Position Information and Hours:

This is a part-time position (20 hrs/week) at $22.00 per hour, with significant room for growth contingent upon successful fundraising. Hours for this position are flexible, though some evening and weekend availability will be required for meetings and events, and Tuesday mornings are set aside for distributions.
