Vice President, Solution Design and Engineering

As the VP, Soluton Design & Engineering, you will provide technical expertise and support throughout the organization. You'll lead dedicated Solution Design and Design Engineering Team members, supporting cross-functional departmental requests for sales support, design support, pricing and overall strategy, when pursuing new business opportunities.

The right candidate understands the 3PO and mobile operator ecosystem, is process-oriented, drives the usage of tools and will support RFP's and customer engagements and lead the design effort to ultimately fulfill sales requests. Create and manage departmental budget and SLAs for design turnaround times.

You and your team will play a key role in developing and maintaining customer relationships that are vital to Boingo's success in the market. You'll also oversee technical pre-sales, DAS, PNET, Wi-Fi designs and costing support for service deployment and network expansion.

You will control regional workflow between all key stakeholders including Account Management, Business Development, Venue Sales, Carrier Sales, Operations and Engineering, establishing priorities within the organization. This position will serve as "Central Intake" for internal processes, managing workflow across functional teams, from project inception, to completion, on a national basis.

You have a big picture understanding of telecom networks as well as wireless technologies (Ethernet, IP, 4G, 5G, CBRS, Wi-Fi, PNET) and the technologies, process and systems used to engineer, design, build and operate such networks. More importantly, you understand the technology trends that are important to current and future Boingo customers and have the skills to serve as a trusted advisor to customers in the technology space.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Customer Facing - work closely with stakeholders, directors, sales teams, participating in sales calls to help qualify and prioritize sales opportunities
  • Respond to requests for sales engineering – designate workflow within Sales Engineering organization to provide specialized support to the sales team by providing technical expertise, written technical proposal documents for customers, network design documents, and guidance in the planning and closing of sales opportunities, as well delivering customer presentations to technical and executive audiences.
  • Effectively manage priorities to provide quality pre-and post-sales technical support to the sales organization and driven
  • Interact with other departments including Engineering, Operations, Marketing, Security, Legal, and so forth as necessary to assist Sales in solution design.
  • Provide Post-Sales Support - Develop and provide a clear, accurate and comprehensive Scope of Work documents and designs that can be used as input to customer proposals and/or RFP responses and provide necessary detail and expectations to ensure an effective hand-off to the implementation team.
  • Make recommendations to the Product teams on new products or product enhancements that could enable Boingo to better serve customer requirements and/or position Boingo in a competitive advantage.
  • Create high level design proposals and technical presentation material that target Enterprise customers, positioning our products as the best solutions for prospective clients.
  • Create ROMs for proposals. Engage cross-functional teams to acquire costing and deliver vendor solutions options for management to select from.
  • Work with Design team to deliver customer requirements. Candidate should possess a clear understanding of design principles, having the ability to review and interpret iBwave files.
  • Participate in RFPs creation and material collections from cross functional teams.
  • Participate in post install Design Package creation and material collections with cross functional teams.
  • Generate high-quality sales leads and follow up after initial meeting.
  • Support and engage with the research and development of future cellular technologies as they apply to Boingo's strategic priorities and vision.
  • Support project managers with integration and testing of in-building wireless networks and ensure documentation and monitoring of the networks are completed to internal, project-specific, and wireless carrier standards.
  • Coordinate and deliver technical designs, design reviews, RF testing, and documentation with carrier and venue technical personnel.

Requirements:

  • 15-20+ years' experience in wireless cellular telecommunications; and other wireless technologies preferred, such as two-way trunk radio, Wi-Fi, CBRS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of 4G and 5G wireless protocols (e.g., UMTS, LTE-MIMO, LAA, high order MIMO, CBRS and WLAN etc.)
  • Working knowledge of in-building wireless DAS and outdoor macro-cell site systems, WLAN Access networks and LTE RAN and vRAN solutions.
  • Level-3 certification in iBwave or equivalent experience, 3-5 years' experience working with inclines, commercial, transportation, sporting event centers, amphitheater, etc.)
  • Experience sorting and resolving complex technical problems
  • Ability to perform engineering computations and calculations
  • Successful track-record of pro-actively improving work process and taking initiative
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering related field
  • Must pass a 10-year TSA / FBI background check (for airport security badging purposes)
