Function

The Warehouse Officer purchases uniforms, equipment and supplies for employees, inmates and the facilities.

Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Director of Administration and is accountable for use of delegated authority.

Pursuant to §15.2–1603 of the Code of Virginia incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff.

Examples of Work

  • Demonstrates positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
  • Orders all materials needed for the function of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office and negotiates pricing.
  • Checks requisitions against packing slips to ensure all items are received and handles any/all discrepancies.
  • Relays information to the Finance Officer for timely payment of invoices.
  • Issues uniforms and support items to all new recruits.
  • Gathers all office supplies for delivery to the different departments of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Keeps records of all generated orders and packing slips.
  • Analyzes and updates inventory and prepares reports.
  • Ensures timely entry of all data concerning employee uniform records and inventory.
  • Utilizes the Quarter Master System, for exchange of clothing items.
  • Must be available to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, and any other person or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines and directives of the office.
  • Meets acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
  • Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbal and/or writing.
  • Follows all Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Performs any other tasks as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with city and court officials, employees and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be detail-oriented, posses a professional attitude and able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and citizens from a variety of racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds.

  • Utilizes good public relations skills.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalency certificate. Some college is preferred. Professional experience in record keeping is essential.
