    Effective August 2023, a vacancy for a Welding Instructor exists within Career, Technical & Customized Education Division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position is located at the TCHS Pickering Campus located at 1580 Charlestown Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460.

    The CCIU is currently offering a sign on bonus of up to $1,500 for candidates who apply and are subsequently hired for a position between March 16, 2023, and October 31, 2023. More information will be shared with eligible individuals at the time of hire.

    Anticipated start date: August 15, 2023
    Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7.5 hour per day. First year 194 work days, second year 191 work days, subsequent years 190 work days. Our school year runs from mid/ate August – early/mid-June following a typical school schedule which would be shared with the final candidate(s) at the time of hire.
    Exempt Status: Exempt position

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements (one of the following): Vocational I or II; or have a minimum of four years wage earning experience in a related welding to include 8000+ documented hours over the past 10 years (candidates in this category will need to complete the appropriate Occupational Competency Assessment within a year in the position (CIP code 48.0508).
    • Operating various lathes, milling machines, and experience in various forms of welding (MIG, TIG, and Arc welding).
    • Requirements also include the ability to plan, assess and supervise students in a classroom and laboratory setting.
    • Experience in a secondary educational or high school setting preferred.

    About the position:
    The candidate for this position prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to further process ferrous and/or non-ferrous metal plates or shapes, and to manufacture and/or install products as interpreted through technical drawings. Includes instruction in trade tools, shop equipment, reading and interpreting blueprints, material handling, welding, thermal cutting, metallurgy, template pattern development, plate and structural fabrication, destructive and non-destructive testing, inspection, shipment preparation and fabrication installation.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide quality occupational instruction to students grades 9-12, in Welding skill competencies.
    • Plan and develop curriculum and daily lesson plans incorporating industry approved standards skills based on the PA Department of Education approved curriculum. Monitor and assess students theory and skill performance based on tests, quizzes, projects and means of formative assessment.
    • Maintain accurate records related to student achievement, attendance and other systems of measuring student performance using computer technology.
    • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, conduct, attendance and other matters of performance related skills.
    • Other assignments requested by the principal or designee.
    • Individuals without appropriate teaching certification through the PDE must be willing to enroll in coursework requirements to obtain vocational teacher certification.

    Salary based on the 2022-2023 Salary Schedule:
    $51,977 to $83,394 - Emergency Certified
    $53,640 to $85,674 - Instructional/Vocational I
    $55,980 to $89,105 - Instructional II/Vocational II
    $57,582 to $93,203 - Vocational II plus 15
    $59,552 to $97,305 - Master's
    $62,138 to $101,136 - Masters plus 15
    $63,492 to $102,970 - Masters plus 30
    • Placement on the salary schedule is determined based on years of direct experience in the field.
