Commonpoint Queens is looking to hire a Mashgiach working Chef. Under supervision of the Senior Director of Culinary, this individual will assist and oversee daily meal production.Reporting to The Vaad Harabonim of Queens for Kashrut questions and standards. In addition this individual will lead culinary training classes for our Opportunity Youth and Adult Workforce programs. This position is primarily Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm with flexibility depending on facility needs and includes full benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for supervision of Kashrut within the kitchen as mashgiach temidi including inspecting food deliveries and supervising kitchen staff regarding Kashrut
  • Maintaining kashrut standards under guidance of The Vaad Harabonim of Queens
  • with preparation of daily meals and manage kitchen in chef’s absence
  • Assist with ordering, inventory, kitchen maintenance and kitchen upkeep as required.
  • Assist with on-going projects as requested.
  • Provide professional culinary instruction in Commonpoint’s kitchen to both high school students, Opportunity Youth and Adult Workforce classes.
  • Prepare all learners for entry-level culinary jobs and Servsafe certification prep.
  • Provide daily tutoring and grading services in CMS such as Salesforce or other platforms
  • Inform stakeholders of all student learners progress on a regular basis
  • Provide superior customer service to every learner, colleague, and employer partner
  • Prepare lesson plans to ensure learners progression with materials
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Culinary Degree/ Training
  • Servsafe Certification or New York City Food Handler’s License
  • At least 3 years professional cooking experience. Knowledge of pastry is a plus, but not required.
  • At least 1 year experience as a chef or a similar role supervising a kitchen
  • Experience teaching culinary skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain concepts in a simple manner
  • Knowledge of and experience in kosher laws
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations
