Job Overview: Dogwood Canyon located in Lampe, MO is seeking a FULL TIME TRAIL GUIDE/WRANGLER to join the team! This individual will prepare and handle horses for trail rides and wagon rides while ensuring the safety for all guests engaged in Stables activities. The trail guide/wrangler is responsible for maintaining an exceptionally clean and healthy environment at the Stables and for the horses on property.

Essential Functions:

  • Have a clear understanding of all safety guidelines to lead and conduct a safe, enjoyable trail ride for Stables guests.
  • Be an experienced rider and able to teach others to ride
  • Feed, give health care, and saddle trail horses
  • Drive a carriage for special occasions
  • Perform all stall cleaning duties as required.
  • Maintain current information on Stables schedules, activity prices and be able to inform guests.
  • Assist in keeping Stables areas, tack and livestock as neat and clean as possible.
  • Walk/Lead/Horse Rides
  • Perform stables duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and enjoyable manner interacting with the Guest(s).
  • Work within schedule and guidelines set by Stables and Dogwood Canyon Management.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations established in Dogwood Canyon standard operation procedure manual.
  • Must be highly service focused with a desire to engage with guests, with exceptional customer service.
  • Be knowledgeable about Dogwood Canyon and its history.
  • Must adhere to all company/department safety standards and policies.
  • Must be open to working mandatory/approved overtime.
  • Must be open to working weekends/weekdays/nights when necessary/critical to support the business.
  • Must be able to cover shifts at affiliate Conservation Attraction properties.
  • Must have an approved driving record and operate a company vehicle if required/applicable.
  • Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education:

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience/knowledge of riding horses, grooming, tack, guiding groups of people on trail rides.
  • Demonstrate initiative - ability to think, work, and make decisions to solve concerns based on sound judgment.
  • Must excel in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is expected.
  • Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy, cleanliness and timeliness are a must.
  • Follow up with stables staff to ensure daily duties are being completed.
  • Keep manager informed of supply needs
  • Requires walking/standing approximately 70% of the time; sitting approximately 10% of the time; lifting to 75 lbs. -stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 20% of the time.
  • Any combination of experience, education, skills, certification(s) etc. will be taken into consideration
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to sunlight, various animals, weather, loud sounds, low lighting, close quarters, high/low temperatures, etc.
