PRIMARY FUNCTION
Program Specialists plan, develop, implement, supervise and evaluate activities provided within a specific program area, such as Education and Career Development, Technology, Character and Leadership; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; Sports, Fitness and Social Recreation; and teen programming.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Teen Program Specialist
Responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of a broad range of programs for middle and high school youth that foster positive self-identity; educational, employment, social, emotional and cultural competencies; community and civic involvement; health and life skills and a moral compass.
Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
- promote and stimulate program participation
- register new members and participate in their club orientation process
- assist youth with goal setting and skills development
- provide guidance and role modeling to members
Program Development and Implementation
- Effectively develop and implement programs, services and activities for members and visitors.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.
- Prepare periodic activity reports, administer surveys, track progress and make continuous program improvements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 48 units completed from an accredited university
- Experience working with youth and understanding of youth development
- An ability to work with teens, ages 13 and up
- Demonstrated experience conducting youth activities in at least one of the designated Core Areas
- BA/BS in Education, Child Development, Behavioral Sciences, Recreation or a related field is highly desirable
- minimum of 48 units completed from an accredited university
- Negative TB test
- CPR and First Aid Certification (Within 30 days of hire)
- Fingerprinting/criminal background check is required
- Proficient in communicating in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- Second language highly desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office platform
- Available on Fridays to attend staff meetings

- Communication (Able to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing)

- Time Management (Able to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines)
- Conflict Resolution (Able to encourage youth to seek peaceful approaches to addressing problems and conflict)
- Diversity Orientation (Able to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, or religion)
- Project Management (Able to plan, implement, and supervise safe, quality programs for youth)
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participation in special programs and/or events beyond regular hours, including weekends
- Must attend staff meetings and participate in staff training events
- May be required to drive Club van
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff and volunteers, Club members, and supervisor(s) to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines, provide instructions, teach, advise and counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, partner agencies, schools, parents and others to achieve youth development goals and outcomes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSFrequent standing and walking; occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds at waist height); hear and understand speech at normal levels; and speak so that others may understand at normal levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Boys & Girls Clubs are often stressful, busy and noisy environments. Program Specialists are expected to work in situations where many member and facilities related activities take place at the same time.
