Job description
Description: The Office of the Attorney General is seeking candidates for two Assistant Attorneys General with the Securities Division. The attorneys will initiate and handle enforcement actions for the Securities Division in all Maryland courts and the Office of Administrative Hearings.
The two positions will represent the Maryland Securities Division in a variety of civil enforcement actions brought under several Maryland investor protection laws, including the Securities Act, the Franchise Law, and the Business Opportunities Act. The duties will include all aspects of litigation, including reviewing complaints, conducting investigations, writing pleadings and briefs, taking and defending depositions, negotiating consent orders, and appearing in court and at administrative hearings. The two positions independently handle a large caseload of enforcement matters while working with investigators, financial examiners, and other AAGs in the Securities Division. The attorneys must possess a strong ability to analyze complex legal and factual issues, write clearly and persuasively, exercise fair and sound judgment, pay careful attention to facts and details, be ready and willing to volunteer to help other attorneys, and be able to negotiate effectively with opposing counsel. Other duties include making recommendations concerning criminal referrals and working with other law enforcement agencies and government regulators. The position entails some appellate practice.

Qualifications: The ideal candidates will have at least five years of securities and litigation experience. Strong skills in legal research, writing and oral advocacy are essential. Experience with securities law, financial transactions, and complex business litigation is preferred. Maryland Bar membership is required.
