Murdoch Developmental Center

Murdoch Developmental Center (MDC) is one of three Regional Centers in the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities within the Department of Health and Human Services. MDC is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC that serves approximately 400 individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). The Center addresses the needs of each person by using an interdisciplinary approach to formulate an individualized program of treatment. Social workers at MDC serve a key role within the interdisciplinary process and are the primary liaison between the client, team, family/guardian, managed care organization, and community providers.

MDC’s Needs Assessment Clinic (NAC) is a coordinated effort between the professional and health service departments within the Center. The purpose of the Clinic is to develop a collaborative Comprehensive Clinical Assessment (CCA) outlining the types of services and supports a child with complex needs would likely need in order to obtain/maintain optimal functioning within the home, school, and community environment. Complex needs, for this clinic, include an intellectual/developmental disability along with mental health or significant behavioral issues. The CCA is then utilized by the Local Management Entity/Managed Care Organization (LME/MCO) and family to arrange needed supports and services.

This position will serve as social worker and Intake Coordinator for the Needs Assessment Clinic. This will include:
  • Processing referrals from the MCOs
  • Obtaining information both written and verbal from an array of sources in the community.
  • Thoroughly reviewing and then summarizing referral information for distribution to Assessment Team clinicians
  • Scheduling clinic visits
  • Serving as Team Lead during the clinic appointment.
  • Compiling all of the interdisciplinary diagnostic impressions and recommendations into a cohesive, comprehensive, usable document within the designated format
  • Distributing the finalized document to all appropriate parties within established time frames.
  • Serving as primary contact person for MCO’s/clinic participants should future consultation become necessary.
This position will also serve as support within the larger social work department at MDC to include:
  • Offering support for the social workers responsible for processing general, state-wide program, and respite admission referrals.
  • Assisting with on-campus voting registration.
  • Assisting with social work duties on campus as needed.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.
