Assistant Transplant Coordinator (CMA or Medic) - Full Time
Job description
- Assists the transplant coordinator and/or physician in assuring the effective and efficient operation of the program, while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with Medical System staff, referring physicians, and patients.
- As a medical assistant, assists the registered nurse and/or physician through data collection concerning the physical, psychological, social and cultural dimensions of patients according to practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.
- Organizes and prioritizes patient care activities considering the needs of the patients and the interdisciplinary team.
- Implements age appropriate interventions based on individual patient’s needs as directed by the transplant coordinator/physician. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) 0-85 in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
- Assists in developing and implementing patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient.
- Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
- Performs administrative support responsibilities. These duties must be performed with an understanding of the federal regulations and requirements of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)/Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), the Centers of Medicaid and Medicare services (CMS) Condition of Participation for Transplant Programs, and the Joint Commission.
- Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
- Contributes to and assists with the professional development of others.
- Accurately schedules appointments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Medical Assistant Requirement: A technical diploma or certificate in Medical Assisting required. Associates Degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited Program of Study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) preferred. OR Medic Requirement: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- Experience: 3 years clinical experience required, transplant experience is preferred.
- License/Certification: Medical Assistant Requirement: - Certified Medical Assistant by the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), Registered Medical Assistant by the American Medical Technologists, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant by the National Health career Association. Credential must be obtained within 6 months from the date of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. OR Medic Requirement: Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate or Paramedic required. Paramedic preferred.
- Basic knowledge of United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)/ Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Condition of Participation for Transplant Programs, and the Joint Commission. Knowledge and skills in phlebotomy preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
