Job Summary
Repair, calibrate and maintain all types of basic and moderately complex clinical/healthcare equipment technologies, devices, instruments, and systems. Inspect, install, and provide planned maintenance of general clinical/healthcare technology equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Degree or GED
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 Years of Experience in the Repair and Maintenance of Medical Equipment
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): 3 Years of Experience in the Repair and Maintenance of Medical Equipment can be substituted with equivalent Military Training and Experience.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None
Required Training: Per the requirements of the Biomedical Technician Competency Validation Checklist, individuals in this position will have successfully demonstrated level 2 or higher competency for at least 15 BMET I level devices and 3 BMET II level devices.
For individuals newly hired into this position, failure to meet the required competency levels within 120 days of the hire date are subject to reclassification into a lower level BMET position;
Knowledge of general computer applications such as e-mail, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Essential Functions
- Repair, install, maintain, calibrate and inspect a diverse range of therapeutic and diagnostic biomedical instrumentation and equipment including life-support equipment.
- Perform planned maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems.
- Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain documentation on new equipment inspections and equipment repairs and failures.
- Assist with, schedule, oversee and evaluate vendor repairs as necessary.
- Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation and user maintenance to various clinical personnel.
- Maintain documentation required by management and as outlined by current policies and procedures.
- Document time and expenses in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform routine rounding throughout the Medical Facility and provides consistent feedback to user departments on the status of repairs and other maintenance activities.
- Review outcomes of planned maintenance (PM) actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
- Order parts and supplies (up to approved limit) necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
- Provide mentoring to less senior biomedical equipment technicians.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide mentoring to less senior biomedical equipment technicians.
- May assist more senior biomedical equipment technicians or supervisor with in-service educational programs on use of equipment.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Provide on-call after hours coverage on a regular basis by participating in the LMC Biomed On-Call rotation schedule per the requirements of the “Biomed On-Call Duty” policy.
- Maintain knowledge of electronic theory, technology and test equipment.
- Maintain knowledge of color code conventions use in component, wiring and medical gas marking.
- Maintain knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical/healthcare equipment.
- Stay abreast of current regulatory requirements related to medical/healthcare equipment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
