Summary of Responsibilities
Our growing construction firm is looking for a Controller to join our team. The Controller should be able to successfully complete their tasks and are responsible for the financial and accounting functions of

Necessary Skills for a Controller
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of progress billings based upon specific contract terms and accurate customer accounts receivable records maintained daily.
- Review accounts receivable, aging reports and assist with collections while engaging with all appropriate team members weekly.
- Supervise the payment process to vendors and subcontractors and confirm lien waivers and insurance are properly collected.
- Monitor daily cash balances to ensure requirements are met.
- Review and monitor the preparation of the bi-weekly payroll for employees, including the timely submission of 401k deductions.
- Manage IT relates issues.
- Mentoring direct reports to grow in their roles & responsibilities as the company continues to grow.
- Perform special assignments as directed by the leadership and advisory board.
Financial Reporting
- Preparation and review of monthly financial statements for Albion. Review financial statements with management.
- Preparation of construction contract schedules.
- Oversee the monthly job cost report process with the president and project managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work in progress reports for internal and external use.
- As needed, meet with the company’s bankers and bonding company to review financial results and forecasts.
- Work with long time external accountant to ensure continuity of the books of record.
Business and Health Insurance
- Responsible for the review and procurement of the business and health insurance programs for all entities.
- Maintenance of insurance/risk protection program
Retirement Programs
- Assist in the administration of the Albion 401(k) plan and other employee benefits.
- Assist in the administration of the Albion ESOP program.
Strategic planning
- Participate in the on-going strategic planning with the Albion leadership team. Perform due diligence and create projections with different scenarios on growth opportunities as needed.
- Prepare the annual financial budget and update the forecasts on a quarterly basis.
- Create budgets with leadership and manage budgets to ensure fiscal health and responsibility.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA desired but not required.
- Proven background in commercial construction, construction management, construction administration or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years practical accounting experience in accounting environment.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Work with Project Managers and Operations team a plus.
- Experience with ERP and accounting software systems required. Experience with ComputerEase or Sage a plus.
- Positive attitude and team player.
- Highly organized with strong emphasis on self-motivation and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with executive level external and internal clients.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to identify and manage priorities.
- Exhibits keen problem solving and listening skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel (including VLookups, Pivot
Tables, etc.)
- Willingness to work primarily in an office environment.
